I cannot believe Romney is a great debater.. Wilie I never knew you were Republican until today.. I have one question If i could deny everything i stood for and muddy the facts.. you think I can loose.. Romney was not great!!! Obama was horrible!!
We constantly hear how smart Obama is, but we never see it. We have not seen any proof from his college days. Maybe he relies on people that we don't see to make the governing decisions. That's the only reason I can come up with that would account for such a lack of a grasp of facts as we saw on Wednesday. Maybe that's why he always has a teleprompter.
good morning. Mitt Romney must think we the American people are really stupid. For 8 weeks he is standing concrete still on one side of the the fence then all of a sudden Wednesday night he was "compassionate" for the American people. Compassionate? Where can you just not like a school pull your child and go to another? What kind of equality education is that? Why do you not feel the Republican party released the 5 - 6year old video with President Obama speaking? Oh yes so if he would have been aggressive Wed night it would have given The republicans and the media the grounds to call him an "angry black man" That is really what the romney camp would love. So mitt romney...no matter what lies and smoke you blew on Wed night ...I will still vote for President Obama the man who is out for my best interest.
I am amazed that all you talking heads and pundits have completely overlooked the truly brilliant tactic employed by President Obama during that first debate. What all of you assumed was body language from the president indicating he was tired, not into the debate when he was looking down at the podium thru much of his opponents' talking points was actually a man watching his plan unfold. Apparently you didn't notice the little smile he had as Romney destroyed the majority of his own stated policies over the last year...a smile that got noticeably more pronounced every time Romney made another statement that will come back to haunt him. Using many of his tried and true talking points and some carefully worded statements, and avoiding controversy for now, Obama used Romney's own hubris against him, drawing out a great number of claims that put Romney at odds with his base, and reversed or denied statements made by him throughout the campaign. While Obama is aware that the focus of most media will be on his "loss" for a day or two, the glaring falsehoods, flip-flops, and outright fabrication of new policy "ideas" will force the conversation inevitably Back to Romney, a man who will say anything to win. Allow that to cook and sink in between now and the next debate and Obama will move to phase 2. Lose a debate but win the argument works for me.
Well said and I agree.
I sure hope you're right. I hate hearing what people are saying about our President. There's nothing more irritating than listening to a self-righteous republican because their candidate won a debate.
Obama is really, really smart. His life story bares that out. That's why it makes no sense that he would not be prepared for or underestimate Romney. No sense at all.
He had a strategy. Most people just don't agree with it. But you plan for the end result. Sometimes you have to take a step backwards to make two steps forward. This campaign team has been great! They were in 2008 as well as now! I still have confidence in them. Noone thought he would beat Hillary but he did; then McCain; but he did; Now Romney. I'm keeping the faith. He can now say that he has brought the unemployment rate under 8%!!!
First of all Joe, you are really showing your true conservative colors today, almost gleefully delighting in the president's "poor" performance in the debate. Wait a minute, how could this have happened?? Any reasonably intelligent person would maybe think that while Mitt "the used car salesman" Romney had nothing to for months but to prime for the debate, the actual President of the United States had more pressing things to do...like the economy, jobs, Afghanistan, the turmoil in the middle east, the killing of an American citizens, etc., in other words, the president has a real job. Historically the failure in the debate is meaningless. What is meaningful is the character of these 2 individuals. One who has the interest of all of the American people, and one who has disavowed almost half of the population. One who has earned and struggled to his position and one who has had to open mouth, insert silver spoon. One who will protect the middle class and one who will throw them under the bus....Debate or no debate, performance is nothing compared to substance or character. No one will be deceived by the brilliantly executed words of a liar and deceiver, if they have been paying attention at all to the man under the Romney mask.......
Someone tell the President to stop apologizing for his term. Given the state of the economy when he took office, he has really navigated dangerous waters and kept us afloat. Why do we see that but he and his team keep missing the clear articulation of that perspective?
A 4th grader could come up w/ 3-4 clear talking points that should have been driving the campaign throughout!
Thanks for all your work.
The stock market is doing so well because Obama (by bailing out Wall Street and extending the Bush Tax Cuts) has created another BUBBLE that is about to burst!
LOL . Joe Scarborough says the President doesn't have the answers then you say he is brilliant. You have a closed mind Joe! So you will never understand the President! Listen at yourself talking about how he thinks he 'knows so much'. Joey you sound like a jealous school kid when he talks about POTUS. You will figure out the strategy soon Joey Scarborough. Just keep watching the election!! He baited Romney into talking. Romney came out swinging!! The Rope A Dope!! Romney won a debate talking about cutting Big Bird? Where has this Country come to? All the blogs I see are talking about HOW ROMNEY WON A DEBATE ON LIES. THEN HIS CAMPAIGN CAME OUT THE NEXT DAY ALREADY TRYING TO WALK BACK ON THE STATEMENTS AND PROMISES HE MADE...BECAUSE THEY KNOW THEIR BASE AND THE TEA-PARTY WON'T STAND BY WHAT HE SAID!!!
I was just thinking Rope-a-Dope because that's what I perceived while suffering some angst at the same time. I remember that during the fight, Ali covered up and let his opponents flail away with everything they had. The assault looked formidable and I was concerned, but eventually, the bursts of energy from the opponent grew less and less energetic and diminished intensity. During the event, Ali was doubted as was the strategy of allowing his opponent such free reign. Of course, Ali eventually delivered the knockout blow and all the "experts" were left stewing in their own prophet-of-doom stew.I'd suggest that another "rope" cliche is also apt here; "Give a man enough rope.......".
Another metaphor, regarding Mr. Romney and his party is the supernova; a final burst of energy before diminishing toward irrelevance.
That's what I think is unfolding here.
From the Washington Post:
“He made a choice last night to answer the questions that were asked and to talk to the American people about what we need to do to move forward and not get into serial fact-checking with Governor Romney, which can be a tiring pursuit,” David Axelrod, a senior campaign adviser, told reporters.
But to the low-information voter, bullying and rudeness win every time, no matter what was said. Did the Romney supporters even listen to what their candidate was saying?? He did a 180 on everything from the last 18 months. Unbelievable.
all these excuses every one is looking for to justify Obama's performance, instead of just realizing what many of us knew from the begining, that this man came from one of the worst kind of broken family situations, his mom took up with a black man from Kenya, and then was abandoned by the same man, so Obama grew up with a mom that basically abandoned her own culture, and so he must have been a very confused young man.
there is no real substance or integrity in this man, what we saw in the debate was the genuine contrast with him against a man that does have a genuine deep sense of personal integrity, Mit Romney is so very much greater than Obama, that Obama was abased in His presence, and you all keep trying to spin Obama into some presidential substance, but it isn.t there and never will be!!
And Dave you saw all that from a debate? You learned about his mother and his upbringing from Romney talking about Big Bird? What Mental Health Facility do you reside in?
Dave, racist comments like yours is what gives your party the image it has. You have no decency, charity or tolerance. You're one of those low-information voters that doesn't realize that he is voting against his own interest. You're the fool here.
If Congress had passed the Job Reform Bill, how many jobs would this have produced for the American people? I have been curious about this topic and have not heard much about it.
On a personal note in regards to the debate; Romney was stated as being the "clear winner" due to his aggressiveness. So would Obama been the winner if he had his "bullying" skills sharpened while throwing the word vomit around like Romney? I really do not understand why he could be deemed so wonderfully when he lied, changed his stance on views for the millionth time and danced around the questions. Could Obama's team used the strategy, which was stupid, to lock Romney in key points? It has to be difficult to debate someone when you have no idea what they are standing for during a given day.
Your rhetoric this morning reminds me of rats jumping ship. Romney's debate was "brilliant" ?? Please. President Obama was lackluster. If it was an intentional style it was the wrong choice, but it does NOT elevate Romney. Maybe it's time to do a major "PUSHBACK". . . on the remote control . . . on MSNBC. . . especially on Morning Joe.
Little Rock, AR
Only 1 incumbent President (Bill Clinton) has won 1st debate since 1960. George Bush lost all 3 debates and still won election. Check stats with Rachel Maddow. Time to move on!! Enjoy wathing your show. God Bless
Joe, If you had a reporter outside the labor department, instead of just reading the Jobs Numbers and asking that egghead sitting at your table, the reason the numbers went down so much is PEOPLE ARE working at home, yes, yes, yes, not your reasoning Sir. People are working at, from, in their homes. I do. Hundreds of thousands are. Instead you give a lame, ill logical, WRONG response. 7.8 is to quote Mr Halprin a GAME CHANGER right now. Forget the debate and all the Romney Robotic Man, these are the real hard numbers, you should of seen Stuart Varney's face when he heard these numbers, I thought he was going to jump out of one of the windows @ fox news. Joe, I think you are a conservative intellectual, but stop the spin on these numbers and report what the labor department actually said to back up it's release. Joe, Joe, Joe, put down the Joe and read the Report.
Joe Biden was just given his Candy for his Debate next week!! 7.8% Unemployment rate!!!! Go Obama/Biden
I am watching Morning Joe this AM and I am not sure I understand JOE..wasn't it only a few days ago that Joe said Mitt Romney was NOT A POLITICIAN??.....Now all of a sudden he is as well as Obama...."GREAT POLITICIANS" Which is it Joe....You're flip flopping as much as Romney!!?? MALIKA WILL YOU PLEASE TALK MORE!!!!! :)
C'mon Joe, you know that the President doesn't need a teleprompter to debate. Four years ago when he dismantled John McCain w/o a teleprompter, you all thought the President was a brilliant debater and stated it in recent discussions. Now all of a sudden after one debate, you throw the baby out with the bathwater and shout from the rooftops that he can't come up with a cogent retort to Gov. Romney. What contradiction and provocative conversation and a disservice to the American people that desire a more objective discussion based on actual events and not made up falsehoods. What morality.
Listening at Joe Scarborough and so many other Republicans is just Hilarious. The POTUS has them all going in circles. Reminds me of an old R&B song by the Dramatics.."You Got Me Going In Circles...round and round I go" LOLOLOL
If you want to know the difference between Population growth and the job numbers look in the newspaper under new business license.
People who have been out of work are starting their own small business. They no longer are in the WORK force, but have an internet business.
Construction workers have started their own remodeling business. Therefore, they are not considered in the work force to count for unemployment but do not count for new hires.
If Congress had passed the Job Reform Bill, how many jobs would this have produced for the American people? I have been curious about this topic and have not heard much about it.

"The numbers just don't add up," Joe Scarborough repeated at least a dozen times this morning on hearing that unemployment numbers have dropped below 8%. His "confusion" shows that he, like most Republicans, would rather have a failing economy than see any improvement that might be interpreted as favorable to the president. What a jerk!
We watch your program every day, you ought to be ashamed. The numbers are good to you if they are up and in question them if they are favorable for America. The numbers are calculated the same way every month. Why don't you just put your Romney pins on jacket so we know for sure where you stand. My wife and I are 65 yrs old and both work multiple jobs, and are very disappointed with the biased crap on todays show. Hey "7.8" is below 8.0 get over it ... that line is now gone ... give the man credit here's another promise kept! Romney keeps lying and you guys just keep telling how great he is. Yes ..I'm in the 47%, not the 1%, I'm a vet, under employed, and my home is under water, and can't get a loan modification. Do think Romney understands that ???
I don't think I've ever seen such a change demeanor in Joe in all the years I've watched. He went from being high as a kite with Romney "winning" the debate to someone who looked like he wanted to jump off a bridge when the job numbers came out and the 7.8 number. He all but called the labor dept. a bunch of liars and cheats. Joe, sometimes things don't always go the way you want them to, get over it Joe. If the number would've gone up you would be dancing on the desk.
GO OBAMA 2012!

I am very disappointed with the Staff of MSNBC I love watching you guys I'm up will Willie Geist then Morning Goe and I follow the cast throughout the day. I got to admit I am disappointed with the cast and how hard they have come down on the President. I thought I was watching Fox 5 MSNBC is always fair with there analysis.
The president did't loose the debate that was his strategy and he chose to handle this debate this way. Mr Romney has been untruthful and flip flopping all year. How do challenge a person who is untruthful and continue to be untruthful. I tell you how by documenting his untruths and let the American People ask him the questions. If the President had gotten in a conflict with Mr Romney's lies would that have looked Presidential. In all due respect former President George W. Bush it was never said he was in a bubble after all he got us in all this crisis. Please I am only one person we must be fair and respect the Office of The President. I hope the MSNBC cast will take this to heart. Obama/ Biden
So Joe revealed the real story this morning; his Republican friends get angry with him when he praises good economic news. Enough said!
What we have had is a classic paradigm shift in how we view employment in the USA. This recession has changed all forms of measurement and how they relate to one another. We will not be able to truly define our employment picture until we have come through this time and look back and evaluate results. It took years to accurately assess the Great Depression economic forces. Until then, we will have to deal with the psychological-vs-reality pressures. It would be foolhardy to make quick assumptions based on old definitions and parameters (measure twice: cut once).
