A Republican from Texas said the other day, a gaffe is when you say what your really thinking, what's really on your mind. Well, here's to the biggest gaffe yet!! Good job Mr. Akins.
Sounds like Morning Joe crew are talking about horseflesh or upcoming baseball players rather than potential leaders of the nation. George W. Bush and his Daddy did this or said that but WHAT WERE THE RESULTS OF THEIR POLICY DECISIONS? Mitt Romney is a world class liar and that’s all there is my friends. I am spoact.blogspot.com
Forbes would be right if US free market capitalist weren't a b unch of vain , self-serving, power mad, greed stricken silver spoon trust fund baby "American Psychos". Economy is bad because all these Aristocrats are hording their money, stalling technology and delaying hiring. Freedom Manifesto my @$$
The polls about Todd Akin may be surprising in that he is within the margin of era with Claire McCaskill but we are talking about Missouri here. It is a very backward state. We used to be a bellweather state but we are slipping toward bright red and irrelevance on the national political map. The "Right to Pray" amendment that just passed with an 83% majority is an example. The federal and state constitutions guarantee religious freedom but this amendment was proposed because "Christians are being discriminated against". The amendment allows students/parents to refuse to take / allow their children to take classes in school that are not in agreement with their religious beliefs. In other words no biology if it teaches evolution; no physics that teaches a big bang theory; no geology that teaches that the Earth is more than 10,000 years old. I call the amendment th "Right to Stay Stupid" amendment. Nevertheless I am not surprised that Akin is still in the race and still holding his own. Crossroads GPS and the Republican party are just putting pressure on Akin by pulling financial support but I do not believe that they will not be back. We just could not get lucky enough to miss all those awful political ads.
I like the "Right to Stay Stupid" amendment. The world will function very well, and most people can function quite well in society, regardless of whether they believe in evolution, the Big Bang theory, or anything else in the Bible. The Big Bang actually was first described in the Book of Genesis: there was nothing, and then God said "let there be energy," and BANG, there was energy, which humans perceive as light & heat. And then there's human history, the Bible says we're all descended from Adam & Eve, and then generations later, a climate catastrophe happened, and the only survivor was Noah, his sons, and their assorted wives. And DNA studies have confirmed that we are all descended from "Mitochondrial Eve" who lived 200,000 years ago, and about 100,000 years later, something awful must have happened, because we are all descended from one man (Y-chromosomal Adam, they should call him Noah), who survived. And unknown to anybody until the 20th century was that Time expands as Space expands, and the universe is expanding. Ever since the Big Bang, Space has been expanding and taking Time with it. Space used to be infinitesimally small, and so was Time, maybe the history of the universe really could have fit into 6 days. So if you don't want to believe that it was God who met up with Moses on top of Mt Sinai and told him all these stories, you might wonder if it was an extra-terrestrial space traveler or a time traveler from our own future who did.
Anne your first sentence says everything one needs to know about you.
I didn't find what he said offensive at all. I know what he meant by "legitimate" rape, one that is reported to the police, the victim is taken to an emergency room, & offered drugs to prevent pregnancy & STDs. Pregnancy is truly very rare in cases of properly reported, prosecutable rape. It's when the woman "forgot" she was raped, or only thinks it was rape after she finds out she's pregnant and she wants Medicaid to pay for her abortion, that the legitimacy of her complaint is questionable. And what happens when she turns up at the abortion clinic and says "oh, now I remember, I was raped!" Are the police called? Does an officer meet her at the clinic to make a report and take custody of the forensic evidence (products of conception)? Don't they need the fetal DNA to prove who the rapist is? And if she wasn't actually raped, if she's just making the rape story up so she can get Medicaid to pay for her abortion, that's insurance fraud! It's time to stop feeling sorry for these girls; a little skepticism is in order here.
Highly questionable arguments and statistics used to rationalize your religious beliefs and denial of a woman's right to freedom, liberty and justice.
I do however, appreciate your willingness to attack victims of crime and to assume that all women who are raped and receiving abortions are doing so under Medicaid. Medicaid does not cover abortions!
It's time to start feeling sorry for idiots like you who are either too stupid to know what you're talking about or are purposefully trying to mislead others.
Joe was awfully loud and excited today...the "fun" he had after the discussion on legitimate rape was curious- some men seem to get turned on by that subject?
"illegitimate" rape is the kind that is not reported until the woman finds out she's pregnant and wants Medicaid to pay for her abortion. It's insurance fraud.
"illegitimate" rape as defined by Akin, Ryan and all of the Republican's in the House is any rape that is not violent. This was part of the bill they introduced as a constitutional amendment. So if a woman is drugged and raped it wouldn't be considered rape for example.
Medicaid doesn't pay for any abortions ever.
The current GOP party platform, which the Republicans are writing right now, is to enact a constitutional amendment to ban all abortions in every case, including rape, incest and even when it will affect the health or life of the mother.
There is fraud going on here Anne and it's your fact free arguments.
Todd Akin is not an oddity in the rep. party. Most of the men think like he does and say stupid things like "close your eyes" during a rape, or a woman who gets pregnant during a rape ..it is not a rape" or put a pill between your legs to prevent pregnancy or women secret something during a rape so they cannot get pregnant...silly things like this..these are the brains of the rep.men. They like to control women and think like the men of old but today's man realizes that a woman is equal and like our President..feels they deserve the same pay...some like Romney and Ryan do not agree with the Lily Ledbetter bill and did not sign it. They don't think a woman should have a say in her medical care either...but they want these women to raise their babies and stay home and be subserviant to them..don't they? How about equally sharing the raising of the babies..most younger guys think this way..thank God. This is a strange party with ideas to control women and the free thinking of this country. Their mantra is think like us or else...what do we say..???
