It's Monday, and we need some Jersey talk to keep us on our toes.
And we've got some for you.
During a Saturday press conference, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie got a bit fiesty with a reporter who asked a question off topic.
Reporters were told in advance that the governor was only taking questions about a water emergency caused by collapsed mains in Monmouth County. At the end of the briefing, one reporter tried to ask Christie a question about a special joint legislative session the governor had called for Monday.
“Did I say on topic?” Christie asked the reporter. “Are you stupid? On topic, on topic. Next question. Thank you all very much and I’m sorry for the idiot over there.”

Forget about it!! lol Love the Soprano attitude. Go Gov. Christie!
Aren't you the smelliest of wh#$es.
You must be a real genius. I feel sorry for your parents.
WOW Governor, how incredibly unprofessional of you! If the reporter stepped outside of the parameters, YOU needed to be the bigger person (no pun intended!!).
Christie's behavior highlights the reasons why he will never be president. Too fast in the mouth, too slow in the thought process.
Who was the dumbass reporter? Did the reporter think an off topic question would show how smart they were?

That is what reports are supposed to do! If everyone stayed 'on topic' do you think any of the hard questions would be asked?
I don't understand why it seems impossible for politicians to be diplomatic? If he asked for questions to remain on a specific topic and a reporter strayed from that topic, he could have very easily ignored the question and said, "Are there any more questions on topic?" But instead he chose to make himself look like a jerk. He is in the public eye and if he wasn't prepared for dealing with reporters he shouldn't have ran.
The press conference was about a water emergency. Who was the dumbass reporter who wanted to show off by asking a legislative question?
If you ask a stupid question in public you should know that your stupidity might draw attention!
We teach our children the word "stupid" is bad, but apparently Christie's parents didn't teach this bully any manners at all. Christie is the type of person (total hot head) I do not want to represent my country.
He's a great comedian, but I would hope my elected officials weren't simpletons like him. I also feel that I could take him a little more seriously if he lost a few hundred pounds.
name calling... it always makes a person look intelligent.
wow, really Governor? You need to be out this next election, your rudeness and arrogance not to mention your serious food addiction and morbid obesity give the state a bad name
Mr. "Jersey Shore Beached Whale" Christie suffers from the same weakness as do Palin, Gingrich, Bachmann, Cain, and other self-righteous, bombastic conservative politicians and pundits:
He regards any reporter or interviewer who has the temerity to hold him accountable for his previously stated positions to be a bullying, biased member of a left-wing conspiracy, and he views any question for which is unwilling or unable to provide an honest, substantive question to be a "gotcha" question.
In short, these political lightweights feel that members of the news media should act as though they are working for their public relations departments, only asking them the questions that they want to be asked.
Based on this pattern of behavior, it would appear to be a Republican rite of passage to treat journalists (or non-fawning constituents) with contempt.
You don't invite reporters to ask questions at a press conference, and then tell them what to ask you. That's like giving press releases to the public, instead of news. The reporter was told by his boss to ask about an upcoming legislative bill that might go to Christie's office for passage. After the question was posed, Mr. Christie acted like a 5 yr old , quickly asking one of the invited reporters "are you stupid?"
My question to Mr. Christie is, "are you kidding?"
No two ways about it - Cristie is one solid @!$%#
Pound for pound the biggest jerk in New Jersey
Direct, frank, or even blunt in politics and public service is okay. &sshole is not. Mr. Christie, there are now multiple examples of you being unable to conduct yourself like an adult. Either grow up, or get out.
I think NJ deserves what they voted for. The biggest Jerk ever....I hope Romney picks him for the VP spot. The national media would break him down and make him look like Palin.
Love the hypocritical postings from the left on this thread (what's new?) On one side of the mouth, an outcry for more civility and less mean-spiritness; on the other, need to lose a few hundred pounds, obesity giving the state a bad name etc. Must be their ADD kicking in ..
Apparently not ready for prime time presidency or vice presidency. There is such a thing as decrum. Not surprised...he already bashed a teacher for asking a question. He apparently does not like anyone to question him. I think things in Jersey are not as happy as many want you to think...People are now seeing through him and some of the lies he has told them ie that the state would have to pay 95% of the rail line when in fact the percent was more like 10%. The state needs this line to help the traffic flow ..if any of you have lived or been in New Jersey you will agree. He also has some other problems which are getting to him so his demeanor is not what it use to be. His thug tactics are coming out more often.
There are general press conferences and there are single-purpose press conferences. This was one of the latter. If the reporter did not want to ask questions about the water crisis, he should have not showed up.
I think Gov Christie showed more politeness inquiring about the reporters mental abilities, than did the reporter who chose to flaunt the rules.
Again, littleboy.... he (Gov Christie) could have answered in a more professional way - and, another point, it's about time that a journalist decided to do what they are supposed to do - ask questions - not go by a dang script.
Maga
Yes, Christie could have answered differently, but maybe it is time for our leaders to put the fourth estate in its place. They are supposed to report the news, not be part of it.
Dang, littleboyblue, I went to click the 'reply' button and missed by a half inch and pushed the 'like' button.......that will teach me to try to read a screen without my glasses on. :o)
Football is a game of inches.
Newsvine is a game of half-inches.
Have a great 4th
Guess what? If you support someone like fatso the fascist than your opinion is worth koch.
Bullies are cowards.
That be for sure. The majority of Republican politicians are both.
The reporter should have answered:
Stay on topic, are you stupid?
That was a rhetorical question, of course the reporter is stupid.
No dmallett, YOU are STUPID! (For making such a stupid comment.) Whereas, on the other hand, Governor Christie is just a coward.
In many countries reporters can be told what they can ask and what they cannot. Reporters in Mexico, for example, who ask the wrong questions, and write the wrong things, get murdered. Our free press is something we fought for, against regimes that would take it away. Perhaps our NJ governor would prefer to live in one of those countries where pushing the press around is standard procedure, and demagogues get to control what we know and don't know.
The reporter REALLY should have said: "Yo! Guv Tubby! Answa da question I axed ya, ya fatass mook!"
he;s out of control never see the w.h. unless takeing a tour. every time i see him he gets biger & biger .no control food mouth.
