"We’ve always been against this bill. We don't think it's the right direction for America to go and we’re going to continue to try and fight and repeal this bill," House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said this morning -- the day after the Supreme Court's ruling on the president's Affordable Care Act.
Shortly after yesterday's big announcement, House Republicans including Cantor and Speaker John Boehner began calling for a full repeal of the law. The Washington Post also collected the immediate responses of several top Virginia GOP members, including one from Cantor.
In January 2011, the House voted to repeal the law, which then didn't make it out of the Senate.
NBC News' Tom Brokaw and Chuck Todd also joined the discussion, with Brokaw suggesting a full repeal would be difficult.
"I think the chances of undoing it in totality are pretty slim, and I think even Congressmen Cantor would probably agree to that unless they have a massive shift to an even larger Republican filibuster-proof Senate in the fall," Brokaw stated. "I do think we'll see fine tuning along the way."
The notion of a full repeal is supported by the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, Mitt Romney. In a brief speech following the Supreme Court's decision Romney stated "What the court did not do on its last day in session, I will do on my first day as president." Romney could not repeal the law without help from Congress.
The House is set to vote again to repeal the legislation on July 11 after Congress' July 4 recess. The Democrats still control the Senate.
"We’ve got this mess on our hands," Cantor said in reference to the ACA and the Supreme Court's decision. "..and this really underscores the importance of this election. It determines the direction that we’re going to head in this country as far as health care is concerned."

As a Californian who is more or less conservative, the only person I truly respect on this panel (aside from Joe, who - in truth - is conservative lite) is Tom Brokaw. Yes, he leans left, but he still holds it close to the vest and does his job, which is to conduct a tough but fair interview with a politician, no matter the political affiliation. To discuss Health Care , bring on all the opponents and never ask them what they would do to solve this enormous problem of Insurance "death panels" and monopoly of our Health Industry by CEO's! An unsustainable problem that is hurting our economy and our people! Their are more horror stories in Health Care than anywhere else, but, you never hear them reported on! Joe ignores the facts the huge facts of a broken system that kills and destroys families! I'd like a chance to wipe that smirk off his pathetic nancy boy face! With the truth! Eric Cantor I can't stand this mealy mouth millionaire boasting about taking healthcare from those who need it calling it socialism. Then I wish someone on these shows would start doing their work and they call themselves reporter's they are nothing more than a comedy show. I would like them to ask Cantor "Who pays for your healthcare" and if you know the answer to this is that we the people pay most of their A1 healthcare so is this "Socialism" Look at his and rest who scorn this bill they are all millionaires or billionaires they don't really work for the people they just draw a government check and get all the perks and benefits that come along with it. Why won't they give up \their healthcare that we the people are mostly paying for? Additionally since all these Republicans claim they are in favor of at least 90% of the Affordable Care Act why are they trying to repeal the whole thing instead of just changing the part(s) they don't like? They have no plan of their own only a vague promise to do something some time in the future? That's what they always say. We'll fix everything sometime in some distant future. Why are people so against what should be a no brain-er and that is everyone has the right to be healthy and get the medical care enabling that. Health is not a luxury, it is necessary of life. If you object to what's in the bill maybe you should read it. I have and ( yes all 2700 pages) it is a very good bill, no one has to give up their present insurance or company, no one is forced to take sub standard care and if you can't afford insurance premiums the government helps you. The only time a "tax is put in play is if you choose to not have insurance when you can afford it and even then it is only about $90.00 and collection is unenforceable so its a mute point. It does make insurance companies more competitive, spend more of your payment on actual health-care, and gives an incentive for graduating doctors to become primary physicians. It does not allow companies to kick you off if you get sick, deny because of pre-existing conditions, put a lifetime limit on what they will pay to keep you alive. The states have not stepped up individually to help their residents so the government had to. We are the richest nation in the world with the highest health cost, infant mortality rate, and deaths that could be avoided. We also have the honor of getting the least amount of health-care for the money we spend. All this aside, every American has the right to live a health life and it is the governments job to give it to us when state governments won't and it would be a sad day in the lives of the average American if Romney is elected.
Cantor, like many of his Party, don't agree with any legislation that doesn't feed their pocket. Of course they don't mind having the Gov't pay for their health care plan or what about their retirement plan?

as someone who had a stroke after years of paying health ins premiums, and then notified by my ins co. they were terminating coverage as I was no longer "insurable", i welcome the new law........is it perfect? no......is it too expensive?.....maybe......but if anyone wants to repeal it.....let them publish their plan in detail...........
