A Wisconsin woman who supported Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett in the recall election against Gov. Scott Walker gave Barrett a little slap on the face Tuesday night after his concession speech.
According to WISN, the woman was upset Barrett conceded as people were still casting their votes.
Barrett — who didn’t want to talk on camera — told Sater the woman asked him if she could slap him for conceding and he offered to hug her instead.
“He said the woman actually asked him, ‘Can I slap you?’ She was upset about him giving the concession speech while she still felt there were votes to be counted,” Sater said. “He looked at her and said ‘I’d rather you hug me’ so he leaned down thinking that she was going to hug him and she slapped him.”
“That was sort of the end of the little spat they had going there. But the mayor really was just stunned that she’d actually reached up and slapped him. She was just upset — some of the passions of the evening coming out about the results here, the Democrats losing,” Sater added.

Here is an article that shows how the influence of the union movement across America has declined as the number of union members has dropped since the 1940s:
Welcome to the new reality for the state of the unions.
I hope this time the dems....
I hope this time the dems can take their lumps, accept the losses, and move on for the betterment of the state. It's a tall order, I know, but we can sure hope.
As union membership goes down, so do ALL working class wages. Now you can lower trade traing to those of KBR and just hire those highly skilled sub contractors. Like the non union electricians hired in the war zone who didn't know basic grounding and KILLED our troops. Thank you The Dick Cheney.
You forgot to include the information about worker's pay declining at the same rate as unions decline. Let me get that for you. ;)
Wisconsin will just have to live lower on the hog. When you do you can't pay your bills. This will be interesting. Want to buy a cheap house?
http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2011/03/03/147994/unions-income-inequality/
There ya go, so yeah, let's cheer on the decline of unions. Who needs a middle class anyway?
Nevada-Brett...
Don't count on it...
Liberals are notorious for clogging the courts with frivolous lawsuits and such. They find some sympathetic liberal judge to block any law or referendum they are not happy with. They simply cannot accept defeat...
It's okay, though. They had better get used to it...November is just around the corner and I don't think they are prepared for what's coming their way...neither is our narcissistic POTUS.
Yeah the lawsuits by the rich and powerful and their crony blockheads to stop healthcare in the US are not frivolous at all right? How come so many working class people are so ignorant of the fact that the wealthy are always using us and the system to get richer while we just suck it up?
Moron. Differentiate public and private sector unions. It's not about private sector unions, it's about PUBLIC SECTOR UNION theft of taxpayer dollars.
Liberals ... right! We show righteous indignation seeing 100+ people massacred in Libya but meanwhile we slaughter more than 102 unborn babies EVERY HOUR at our Liberal-mandated Planned Parenthood establishments!
Private unions are next, Walkers plan is working, you'll see.
Toby - you are an idiot. I worked in 3 places with Unions because I had no choice - I had to pay union dues to one place even though I wasn't in the union - WTF.
I worked harder than anyone else but couldn't get a raise even though my boss wanted to because of the union. So why work hard if the union removes any incentive from working hard.
I worked in one place where the union negotiated that my job took 8 hours. I was done in 2 hours but had no reason to do anything else because that isn't what I was paid for.
I HATE being idle but the union eliminates efficiency.
One of the places I worked at ended up moving South as it couldn't remain profitable in the North. Idiots were making $15 an hour (back in 1988) for pushing a broom! If it wasn't union they could have hired a highschool kid for $3.78 an hour and gotten a better job done.
I worked for a municipality where they wanted to fire a union worker for stabbing his coworker with a pitchfork but nowhere in the "union rulebook" was there anything that forbad the use of farm instruments on coworkers so we couldn't fire them - there own union leader wanted us to keep him employed even if it put his coworkers at risk for their very life. They actually had to negotiate that into the union contract the next year and for some reason that was a sacrafice for the union to let that get into the contract.
All unions do is suck the life out a business, drive them out of business and keep lazy people well paid until the company goes away.
Stan Stay on topic.
Secondly that doesn't make any sense "liberal mandated Planned Parenthood". Its not mandated you go to PP. Also the abortions preformed by those clinics are pay only for that service. Some states have other clinics not PP that only offer that, and again its all pay only. Federal law restricts the use of Medicaid or assistance funds to pay for those services. So try again.
conspiracy much jonathan?? That was never part of the plan- and Walker himself already said he was done with that part of it. He will not go after private sector unions- ever. Why would he? It makes no sense what-so-ever!
and Di- when you quote anything from "ThinkProgress" you have already lost the argument...
Maybe it won't really matter in the future since all of our jobs are either being exported abroad or automated or both. There is a union for machinists, but there is no union for the machines they make. There is a union for computer programmers, but there is no union for the computers they program to take your jobs (and maybe their own when they come out with self-programming computers).
I do like that in the clip- they show the slap over & over & over again! too funny
I just hope the Republicans give you all what you keep thinking they'll give.
After all, you've got such great expectations.......I hope they live up to all those great expectations you have.
And just think of all the issues the Republicans have solved over the years.
MSN is so bias it as become pathetic, Leading up to the election the Recall story was big news "Too Close To Call" Now that the Union controlled Democrats have lost the only story I see on MSNBC is how some woman slapped Barrett for quitting. Not a story about Walker winning as any NEWS agency would cover. No they would rather forget that fact. NBC News can longer be considered a source for News. It is sad that if an American wants unbiased new's reporting they have to watch BBC a English news channel...
Honestly....I think this just goes to show the grim future ahead.....You think things are bad now.....Lets go back to trickle down economics....You people are all crazy and you just don't realize how bad things can get....I could argue with your economic policies or your political views of the two candidates but if you are so dumb you do not understand the complexities of job creation (by government!?!...Love that contradiction repugs) and vacuum of wealth created in 08' ...and....yes.....it is a long term recovery...and yes all because of the 08' AGI mess. Mark my words this is a propaganda war and this is a propaganda war that people who have their money and want to keep their money are currently financing....Liberalism is about fair share....everybody should pay their fair share...
And lost by 20%! I sure hope this is a hint about how November is going to go for Obama!
Uh..yes there was. When I signed onto MSN this morning the first thing I saw was a smug picture of Walker pointing and winking at the crowd and the headline announced his victory. Don't blame MSN simply because you missed it.
and Stan.......You want us to have the baby....But no one will feed or cloth it....or give it health care or SS.....You are an idiot.....and who wants to create the welfare state? Or do we just let them die? Remember your political party wants small government no restrictions......What you will get is a bunch of poor and destitute families with a lot of unhealthy people that get to die....and your idiot feudal system will be created...GJ...You have made the world a worse place be proud as we give corporations Lord Status in this new feudal systems where they are individuals......This is why I have stopped liking people.....No sense.....
libs... they can't even be civil with each other....
Yeah, uber liberal MSN is hiding this HUGE Walker victory and getting it off the home page asap !! How pathetic. MSN, you don't have an oz. of journalist integrity.
Knowing that Dems/Libs/Union Bosses and Public Sector Union Members are crying in their cereal milk this morning just makes my day. (And that goes triple for Fiesty Redhead !) I'm soooo happy. Can't stop grinning from ear to ear.
A great victory for WI and a great victory for the USA. On to November.
No! Lots of Wisc. voters just didn't want the stigma of "RECALL". (Their quote?)
I don't think you can read.....It is sarcasm and anti abortion.
Peter Arsuaga, who establishes the "fair share" everyone has to pay? The lazy and the stupid? If I work hard, sacrifice vacations and minimize spending on things that are not really important (like buying a new car every 3-5 years, changing my cell phone or computer like I change my shirts) and help my children go to college, why would the government be allowed to tell me to pay more, for the benefit of people who were irresponsible their entire life???
I find it interesting that they "called the race and conceded when people were still voting." Say What? The polls were closed. How were people still voting? Maybe if they were waiting in line, but you would think that an hour after the polls close everyone would have voted.
Anyway, even if the race was called before everyone was done voting, which I highly doubt, that meant that turnout was so much higher for those that voted for the winner.
That's right, lawsuits by whomever against this unconstitutional monstrosity that will drive us broke is NOT frivolous. The REAL blockheads are the ones who think they can just ignore economic realities and the constitution to shove their agenda down the people's throats.
How come so many working class people are so ignorant of the fact that while they work hard and try to live responsibly, political leftists are encouraging the irresponsible behaviors of the poor breeders who produce multiple offspring they cannot properly feed and care for.
The people who should NOT be producing ANY offspring are producing the MOST, and it's killing the middle class with increasing tax burdens for social programs and entitlements paid for on the backs of the hard working middle class. This way, the Democrats have shifted the demographics to more black and Hispanic poor who do not care about traditional America, and will vote Democrat to get all the freebies they can get.
The American Lower Income/Pay issue is not so much union as it is a direct result of Free Trade that Obama, Bush, The Republicans and The Democrats favor. Wal-Mart lines the pockets of politicians in order to get your jeans for less by having them made overseas vs. America.
Why, because labor overseas will make them for $1.00 per hour vs. wages here. Union or non-Union. Wal-Mart saves $X per jeans purchased and passes on a small % of the savings to the consumer. We asked for it.
The result? Decimation of the United States Middle Class, which is being forced to compete with Chinese and other income and benefits (including health care).
It is not a fairness of taxation issue, but a Free Trade issue. Don't be fooled. America is being sold out by both the Republicans and Democrats.
Stop the Cannibal
That is the PROBLEM! I don't want the Republicans or anyone GIVING me something. I want them all to get out of my way so that I can earn and do what I want. The "give-me" attidtude that many (mostly libs/progressives) have is what is destroying this country. Real simple: no work-no pay and no freebies.
That does not mean that if a person is NOT capable of caring for themselves that we let them die. We have a requirement to help those who can not help themselves but that is charity and not a right. We need to get back to the idea of INDIVIDUAL RESPONDSIBILITY and get rid of the "collective" mentality.
Finally, public unions are bad and NO ONE should ever be able to strike against the American people.
Peter Arsuaga
You write
So are you advocating that Liberals should be sterilized because they are incompetent and can not be trusted to be responsible parents?
Wouldn't it be better for them to learn some self discipline and responsibility and keep their pants and skirts on?
The later would seem to be a better more conservative approach.
Boe nice act....federal law requires unions to supply benefits to all employees in their domain. That means even whelchers that don't pay dues have to receive benefits. You can thank your paid for government for that one. The U.S. law has legalizged steeling from dues paying union members where it is distributed to non-paying freeloaders. This is why they fight the so called right to work laws-they have nothing to do with right to work but have everything to do with the ability of a union to collect dues owed from some deadbeat that receives their benefits with open arms but won't pay up. The misconception that right-to-work somehow has made a non-union member an employee receiving the same pay but not paying dues because they opt out of union benefits just isn't the case. The unions, because of federal law are required to pay even for the deadbeat loafers. SO on that note I can clearly say not only do you know nothing about unions but you are also lying about your story.
Talk about a thug. The professional liar Scott Walker will really screw the hell out of everybody now. He thinks he was just handed the big OK to carry on with his filthy crap sponsored by the Koch Bros. This may turn out just great for the Democrats after all. They tried to stop the destruction. When Walker goes on to really do some serious damage there will be some serious regret. After giving him a chance, they will see the error of retaining this dirt bag. Just like the 2010 elections.
phantom...
EXCELLENT post!!
An entitlement mentality has wrecked some of the greatest civilizations in history...
I think they have it all wrong, what this election proves it that it's impossible to beat an incumbant! I think this bode's ill for Romney's fight in November. People are always more comfortable with "the devil they know as opposed to the angels they don't". Also, GOP & Dem's take note....it's impossible to throw out a duly elected official because of policy disagreement .
nwnative...
...they will see the error of retaining this dirt bag. Just like the 2010 elections.
What, when the dems lost control of the House? I agree, the Senate needs to go conservative next...sick of looking at the tired 'ol puss of Harry Reid!
Toby, nice joke.
Look at the City of Boston's new tunnel system. All built by union labor. Only 6 deaths to date. Not bad. If they had some real hard working Americans in there the project would have come in way under budget with no post construction deaths due to shoddy work.
For all the spinmaster scumbags on here trying to claim Walker won by 20% here is the actual polling numbers of 7%, hardly a huge victory considering that Walker outspent Barrett by 2 to 1 and over half of Walkers money was from outside the state special interest not the people of Wisconsin.
http://nbcpolitics.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/06/05/12074595-walker-emerges-victorious-in-wisconsin-recall?lite
Peter,
Reread your statement. 1.19
You are using propaganda and condemning propaganda in the same rant.
The answer to question in 1.22 is that if you choose to have a baby then you should feed and clothe it. Like the majority of all people throughout history.
Actually Joe the official figures are 4-1 . An incumbent does not have limits on donations in Wisconsin.
Joe,
Walker was up by 20% at 10pm eastern when the race was called. But that was before milwaukee county was in (which went heavily to Barrett). Probably not someone that stayed up until all of the votes were tallied. Just maybe they aren't a scumbag since they probably don't agree with you.
lindam....
From what hat did you pull those numbers? Everything I have read shows the final percentages at 53-46. That is a 7% difference, hardly a mandate. Oh, and by the way, Obama is up in the polls in Wisconsin.
Joe...
Wouldn't matter if Walker won by one vote, now would it? He still WON...
BTW, 7% is a pretty good arse whoppin'...dems were touting Obama's few percent as a LANDSLIDE VICTORY! What would you call this? LOL
66% of Walker campaign money came from out state. About 1/4 of Dems money from outstate. Repubs spent 27million more on Walker than dems on their candidate. Election bought and paid for by the rich for the rich.
Walker said right after first election to billionaire Wisc woman Divide and conquer next to get rid of collective bargaining, and he was right. Money spent brainwashing Wisc people to hate their neighbors and friends. The money spent by union members goes right back in to the neighborhood, the community, the state. The money spent by the rich to gain control over more money goes right to the media, and the media likes it that way. Lies in ads ok, lies not exposed because it will be less money for media.
Boycott Wisconsin sounds like a good answer to Walker win.
Even Reagans top economic advisor Bruce Barret says the teabaggers and repubs are like hypnotized into believing that the republican party represents them. Teabaggers want Soc sec, medicare and the post office, while repubs say they will destroy those very same things the teabaggers want to keep. So brainwashed they vote against themselves........by voting repub. Incredible. Brainwashed to hate their neighbors while giving billions in tax breaks to the rich. Trickle on economics does not work.
starsailing...
ROTFLMAO...jeez man, get a grip!
"Those nasty republicans"...we hate everybody and everything, don't we? Yep, we love to drink dirty water, breathe smog, and eat tainted food from China...
Oh yea, we hate women, children, blacks, latino's, gays, bi's, nature, dogs, cats, umbrella's, baseball, apple pie, Government Motors...have I left anything out??
Phantom, I was talking about giving you less government, less regulation and tax cuts for the wealthy (those things we had just before the entire US economy collapsed taking $7 Trillion in middle-class equity with it).
I believe Romney said he would be giving us "jobs that take off like a rocket ship". I should have been more clear that both sides say they'll "give" us something. I gave you too much credit for understanding that (but you, and other right-wingers, never let me down). Let's see how each party delivers.
After all, Romney hasn't "given" us anything yet, except promises. I'm just hoping, for your sake, he can deliver everything he's promised you. I don't need anything right now. I'm old enough to be able to get SS and Medicare that I've paid for. You may be young enough to get a Republican made voucher...wait...it's not really a voucher because all it can be used for is to buy 32% of your health insurance when you're 65 and won't be able to find a job. It's not like cash you can spend on anything.
Good luck with that, Einstein.
"The people who should NOT be producing ANY offspring are producing the MOST, and it's killing the middle class with increasing tax burdens for social programs and entitlements paid for on the backs of the hard working middle class. This way, the Democrats have shifted the demographics to more black and Hispanic poor who do not care about traditional America, and will vote Democrat to get all the freebies they can get."
Cantakenomore- I think the comment above by machinehead is what we're talking about. BTW, maybe he should know there are more whites on government assistance that blacks or latinos.
@ Starsailing.
Trickle down economics work in manufacturing. In fact, it's impossible for them not to work. The issue is that the theory is working in China, where the manufacturing went through Free Trade Agreements. Obama supports them, Bush did, the Democrats do as do the Republicans.
The only way to bring manufacturing back is to either Tariff, or let the middle class compete against wages and benefits in China. I'd like to suggest Tariffs. Which Obama seems be be slightly open to.
Well, it would seem that more people are tired of the liberal rhetoric than liberals would like to admit to. Problem with wealth redistribution is that often that money goes to support generational welfare folk. They live better on welfare than if they got a job. Free medical, housing subsidies, food stamps and school lunches, all money that they don't have to pay for leaving them lots of discretionary income for drugs, cigarettes, booze and designer threads.
Think not? Go do the research. Then, why work if all your needs are taken care of? A society of drones and the worker bees, what do they get? Please, enlighten us as to the benefits of working to support those who won't. Welfare was created to help those temporarily down on their luck or to help the aged and infirm, it wasn't created to allow healthy young people the oppotunity to do nothing and be supported in their sloth.
But the welfare drones don't die easy, there are lots of death threats against Walker. Coming from 'peace loving' liberals and democrats. Who would have believed that those 'peace lovers' could be so prone to violence? Remember Gabby Giffords? Seems those 'peace lovers' denounced Sarah Palin because of 'crosshairs' and claimed the teaparty was violent. Now we see the truth about liberals/democrats and it ain't pretty.
StoptheCannibals:
An excellent....really excellent .......post that cuts throught the bs and tells it like it is!
I think that regardless of who wins elections over the next several decades that the American people will remain upset. Normal complaining in a self-governing republic is to be expected, but what we are seeing now is more than normal. The systems we've created to hand out free stuff, or low cost stuff, to voters are failing. Social Security will fail in its current form. Medicare will fail in its current form. Affirmative Action is failing already. Keynesianism-- abelief which I do not share--is failing as well.
All great societies have failed for one simple basic reason--hubris. They thought they were invincible. Militarily, economically, culturally. Yet all were replaced by another, which in turn failed. So we are looking for scapegoats. Most liberals blame most conservatives, and vice versa. Some minorities blame the majority, and vice versa. Poor blame rich, and vice versa. Mr. Bush didn't change this paradigm, and Mr. Obama has made it far worse. I just want my constitution back. It's the one that says the government is limited to certain duties and powers and everything else it would want to do is not permitted.
I'll help my neighbors when they are in need. I'll help my family. I'll father my kids as best I can. But I am tired of people who do not share my concept of responsibility sponging off of the extra-constitutional generosity of the people of this nation. My education is in economics, but this maxim applies in all facets of life: If you want more of something reward it (read subsidize), and if you want less, punish it (read tax).
We can whine about unions or free trade or what is fair, but it all boils down to a simple question. What do you want for your nation? And whatever that is you should reward. It would seem my liberal countrymen today want more free stuff and to punish those who are industrious and responsible. I hope that really isn't the nation they want, one where fairness is determined by a majority vote to take your work product or the wages for it.
I just hope the Republicans give you all what you keep thinking they'll give.
------------------
If you are expecting government to give you anything more than opportunity, you are expecting too much. When government gives people things, they become wards of the state and unable to exercise free judgment because they are beholding for their living...just as with a political machine or a plantation.
StoptheCannibals-2908428
Here is a novel idea for you. Why don't you take care of your own issues instead of waiting for the Government to take care of them for you? Do you really need a handout from Big Brother to make you feel like you accomplished something?
I know you probably feel like you deserve a handout because you voted for Democrats, I mean that is what they promise.
The problem is the handout they are promising comes from me and other people like me that work our jobs and see more and more of what we earned being taken to handout to you.
But then again I bet you think prosperity comes from the Government.
My Girl, I thought Newt and Santorum just ran around for the last year bragging they had fixed welfare in 1999? It was called the "personal responsibility act". Maybe you heard that, but then, you couldn't blame all your problems on them if you had.
What's next? Are you going after the disabled? The working poor? The 50% of SS recipients who rely completely on SS? Is the $300 a week, $1.25 per lunch, hotel staying family just too much for you? Or is it the $3 billion tax subsidy, $30 Million CEO you're trying to protect? I can see you do have priorities. It took the brown shirts years to work on those groups and they failed in the end. Perhaps you're trying to take over what they couldn't get done?
People wipe people like you off their shoes every day.
StoptheCannibals-2908428,
I appears that your post #1.17 was satire. I apologize for branding you a lib. Afeter reading you other posts you seem thoughtful.
I stand by remarks however for anyone else that thinks the working man and women owe them a living if they are able bodied.
to Squidword:
I worked in a union shop in a right to work state, nobody gave me anything from the union dues. When it was contract time the union members would say "we are working safe so slow down" then they would say the company will giving when they cannot ship the product.
When the company went out of business guess who did not have work. union and non union. All 4000 workers.
Unions served there purpose and now need to go away!
I don't recall ever asking for anything. The only thing i want is what I've already paid for. I don't like people that change the rules after they don't like the rules.
I don't need a handout - thank you. But if I did, I would hope the society I live in (and paid taxes to) will help out, and sure, there probably will be cheaters, but I'm not going to throw out the baby with the bath water. We all decide what we want to pay for in government and what we want the government to do (and even if the original Constitution limits the power of the Federal Government, we have made amendments for things we later decide was missing). I for one do not want to shop around for a heart surgeon (so I have a "stake in the game") when I get a heart attack. I expect my insurance policy to take care of it. That's why I pay them before something bad happens. We expect government to handle things... either too costly, or too complicated for us to handle on our own - and that costs money - which I'm willing to pay for.
All the wealth taxed is redistributed. The Republicans redistribute it to their rich friends and industry, and the Democrats redistribute it to their rich friends and the poor. That's a little oversimplified, but i think it's generally true.
Capitalism is the best system around, however, for those that think the company looks after the employees (and there are some) most all the ones I have worked in have cared more about the bottom line and will use any leverage they have to minimize costs, including labor costs. For every 2,700 pages of regulation, there are 2,701 pages of ways to cheat the system (and growing with each new way of making money). I've been to enough executive meetings to be able to comfortably write that. Greed is good, but it must be regulated and watched over carefully.
Life has been pretty dang cushy for a long time for the American people. When things get a little tough, look at how one party blames the other and poor people. Wow. The problem with Walker isn't that he had to make tough decisions, it was how he went about it and how he continues to go about making changes with total disrespect to Wisconsites. I would have a great deal of respect for the guy if he didn't flat out lie about everything from paying off the deficit to his working across the aisle intentions. He has blown up the state and has caused the most bitter hatred between neighbors and families that I have ever seen here. That is the mark of a HORRIBLE leader. It was totally unnecessary to go about it how he did, and what's worse is the fact that so many ignorant people on his side that seem to revel in this type of civil war. Really?? How competely and utterly un-American.
Jen...

Wow! If I hadn't read your entire post but only this part, I would swear you were talking about Obama...are you sure you really weren't??
How do you regulate greed? @Stop the cannibals, do you believe that the CEO of GM deserves to be paid the salary he is? I don't, but then again, i'm not a share holder. And you do realize that corporations have board of directors, who negotiate the salaries of these CEO's, who in turn are responsible to their share holders.
You start regulating how companies can pay their top people, and you will have companies that hire people who got a 2.0 average in the MBA course.
Do you own a company? Every single company that is in existence is in business to make money, bottom line! I can't think of any entrepreneur who got into business to make a product because they wanted to be altruistic. Many have made products that enhanced or made our lives abit easier, but making money was in their thoughts.
@Jen, I think 65% of the people of Wisconsin would disagree with you.
Stopthecannibals: Typical. How many generational welfare people adverse to working are you personally willing to support? Do you deny the fact that people live better with government goodies like housing subsidies? Perhaps you should take off your blinders, get real here and quit with the false pathos. Brown shirt? My, you are indeed a liberal of the abusive and abrasive stripe. Did you participate in the twitter threats against Walker too?
Evidently you ignored my statement that welfare was supposed to be there to help the truly in need, the elderly and the disabled. Read into something and then attempt to spin it to suit your agenda.
Wipe you feet on yourself, hypocrisy camoflaged as false pathos drama queen expert.
boe-1363655, you are suspended for a day for violating rule # 1 of the Code of Honor.
So I come back later and read all this nonsense....Whatever...So no abortions for people who cannot afford or support children ....who are victims of rape....and the governemnt should let the little kids pay for their crap neglectful parents....One way or the other morons......Real genius....Sounds like an idiot's conundrum...
Let me clarify for anybody who might misunderstand.....I personally would never ask or allow my wife ...or girlfreind when I was younger to have an abortion .......I believe in responsibility for my own actions.......But....If someone is willing to abort their child, what kind of parent are they going to be? And your stupid version of a smaller government would do nothing about it.....See Dumb isnt it....No solution....just idiocy
Morning Joe was so good this morning with out that Scarborough creep. " I'm conservative, I'm a Republican, I'm a Catholic" Yah, then what are you doing on CNBC?
thats ok- he deserved it!!! he was one of the candidates across our country disrupting the way our country is run -if we recall everybody we dont agree with we will have chaos- if we repubs can play fair -so can the demo s -you-all-hear!!???
Here in Calif. we got a flash flood of tears from the Liberals in Wisc. now if we can only drain the plague here.
If you want money to buy the election then its fair. But who is going to pay the piper, er republican money back?
PLEASE let me know when the Repubs start playing fair. They used to play fair and were a decent party until the T-Party came into existance, now they want to roll the country back to the 1920's. Me, I would like to see us start living as though we were in the 21st century.
C Francis How are they rolling anything back. They just took the useless oublic workers off the gravy train. LMAO fair and decent means letting the libitards win. Sorry that is all done. Try bringing facts to the next debate you airhead. You will swallow any propaganda the left throws out proving your weak mind
Liberals are weak minded, like sheep! I gotta freind who's an ultra radical liberal, thinks Obummer is God! The liar in chief can do no wrong! And that goes for ANY Democrat in office. Drives any logical person who sees what is really going on in this country NUTS!!
More and jeep, unfortunately you are both ill informed and really do not know much about history nor poly sci.......We are now coming to the age of plutocracy because the grand experiment that was stared some 236 years ago is failing, just as the framers of the constitution said it would if they did not keep money and religion out, and low and behold we are failing and fast.
Pat,
I am surprised a libtard would bring up the constitution since your boss has ben trying to destroy it since he has been around. I guess your propaganda machine will need to add a few new pages for you guys to recite from.
Larry, cute little saying....but apparently you have no knowledge of poly sci and are blind to the world......you really need more substance
Jeepgal66,
Answer this. So what was really going on in this country when GW Bush and Cheney were in command? Besides creating a mountain of $hit for all of us, I can't figure out what they did that was positive.
I don't think the liberals will mind Wisconsin's arrangement. After all they already have some of the worst schools in the country and declining SAT test scores. Might as well finish the job of dumbing them down the rest of the way. After all its better jobs for everyone else. But hey, all the bottom level teachers will be happy to work there for $6.00 an hour. I'm sure they can import a few from Mississippi or maybe Southern Mexico!
U guys are so right and they are so wrong u missed the real story!
Look at the overall vote count.
Republicans and democrats are a minority. U guys just don't listen to what isn't being said.
What we really need is more true and false, and multiple choice tests and polls.
Squidword, please do some research. Wisconsin public schools are some of the BEST in the country. Inner city Milwaukee is a bit to be desired but the rest of the state is phenominal. The reason is our teachers are some of the best compensated teachers in the entire USA. The average opening in public schools up here gets over 300 applicants and ALL having teachig degrees and accredidation. Further, if you knew anything about WIsconsin you'd know FEW kids even take the SAT's in this state. The overwhelming majority in our state take the ACT's as that is the preferred test of our in state university system and our ACT scores are amongst the best in the nation. Seriously, how do you breathe and type at the same time?
I have to laugh at the comment that Obama thinks he's god... I've never heard him say anything close to that (and I didn't vote for him), however, Walker was pounding his chest last night that he's all but ordained by god to be governor, like somehow he was "chosen". Meglomaniacs always have the most spectacular falls from grace, can't wait to watch it.
Glad to hear it! The unions did a lot of good in the 30s, but there is little need for them today. They hurt us all by asking for far more than what they deserve. They protect the incompetent, the lazy, and the rulebreakers and prevent those who outperform the rest from being rewarded.
Yeah big business always takes care of the little guy right? Sure .. thats why healthcare is not for everyone and pensions? who needs em... No need for unions.. the rich stay rich.. wor=king class folks can just take whatever the rich think they need (very little)... History tends to repeat itself.. at some point people will be screaming for more of their fair share..and better conditions at work.. It won't be easy to get but it will happen..
I'm sure that you have a long list of things that you would like to impose on our businesses. But the voters (at least in Wisconsin) have rejected your values.
So what are the republicans going to do with the incompetent? The rich already have their reward, no?
The Republicans are not going to do anything with the incompetent. The incompetent lost the election, but losers aren't punished for losing.
I worked most of my life for big Corporations, and NO they didn't have unions BUT what they did have was the same wages and benefits that the unions had worked to provide for their members. Then their was no reason for the big Corporations to have the unions because the workers benefited. NOW, big corporations just get bigger and make more money off the workers while the fat cats just get fatter.
Business cares for people who make them money, not those that do not produce. Like all losers the left and the crybabies make excuses. Excuses are easy. So many of you so called workers are showing you are too stupid to hold a job and compete. That is why all your jobs are in Asia
So Brian, now that unions have done their job there's no longer a need for them.I'm sure you're right, there is no chance that some corporation or public official will ever try and take advantage of the workers ever again. This WI. election did away with all that. Tell the miners in WV or PA that their worries are over. Tell the airline pilots forced to fly extended hours, putting themselves and their passengers at risk that they needn't be concerned any longer. Unions did their job and are meaningless in today's society. Wake up,the Company Store business model is right around the corner.and the Koch bros and their ilk are behind the counter
The corporations have the right to set pay rates however they want to. The workers have the right to not accept the pay rate offered to them. No one holds a gun to the head of a worker forcing them to accept that pay rate. The worker has the right to work for the competitor (or anyone else offering them a job, for that matter). If the wages offered by the business are not competitive, they won't be able to hire workers. The market takes care of the workers. Unions were useful in the 30s in reforming our laws to force companies to allow market forces to work. But, now that the laws are reformed, the union's only reason to exist is to try to fill the union trough. Not a good reason to exist.
The losers were already punished for losing, that is why there was a recall election, unfortunately 30.5 Million dollars did the talking. What percentage of that was out of state contributions again? Oh yes, 66%. So sad that the people really didn't have a chance to see the real truth, just the truth as portrayed by out of state, big money interests.
We need a new labor movement in this country, but the current union model is a holdover from the industrial boom of the fifties, and it cannot sustain itself. Business has changed, and so must labor. The thugs must go as well as mandatory membership. If you have a captive audience why would you change. Labor must become more flexible and innovative, two things unions have always fought against. If you make membership voluntary, you must give people a reason to join. You must listen to your members, and do what is best for them, not for the union bosses.
The "income gap" is simply the difference in wages paid between one arbitrarily chosen group and another. Wages are determined by market forces. Unions can't alter the market. They can only try to replace the market with political dominance. But that political dominance isn't based on reality. And, as we saw in the fall of many communist countries, is doomed to failure. We are a prosperous nation because we allow the market to work. Because we value private ownership of property. That's really what this is all about: do we truly allow people property rights? Or do we allow the mob to take whatever they want?
Unions have become VERY greddy nowadays. Not like it was 40+ years ago! They are part of the reason states are going broke! My Lib freind said if he was union, he would be making alot more money, have a nice pension, etc. The truth is, this state is BROKE! You can't get blood from a turnip! Those fat paychecks will make the state even more in debt!
Well Brian - I agree with you that the Unions did a lot of good in the 30's - and I also agree that they f'd up along the way and became greedy (organized crime didn't help much). What I can't get behind though is that we don't need them because we still do. I always hear about how the Unions protect the lazy and incompetent but no one really talks about when the Unions protect the deserving. In the end, its about perspective. If you like and agree with someone they are considered worth it - if you dislike or disagree with someone they are lazy and incompetent.
The real truth here is that this whole thing was about getting rid of the voices of all workers, starting with the public section (except for the cops because we'll need them to quell the possibility of an uprising). Then we'll become a Right to Work state.
I'm not a Union member but I recognize the fact that I probably wouldn't have anything at all if it weren't for the Unions members who've sacrificed along the way for our benefit - members who were beaten down by Pinkertons and thugs and had to become thugs themselves in some cases just to stay alive.
But hey - it all depends on who's narrative you follow -right?
Your right about union protecting the rule breakers and the lazy, the one time I needed help from the union it abandon me. If you just do your job you dont need unions.
My Dad was a union worker for 40+ years. He never once needed the union to protect him because he did his job every single day. He excelled at it, as a matter of fact. But he got paid exactly the same rate as the lazy, the incompetent and the rulebreakers because he was forbidden from being rewarded by union rules.
Phil,
Why would I want to join the union and pay union dues if I can get the same pay and benefits the unions negotiated for without ever becoming a union member?
That's why we have mandatory membership. If the dues dry up, so do the unions (as if the Republicans don't know that)....and the benefits they've negotiated for.
Just wait...we're in a race to the bottom. It won't be long before people get screwed for being so short sighted. But that is the way we sometimes learn....the hard way.
Actually most people decided who they were going to vote for long before the crush of money hit the market. The money didn't influence the election as 90% voters had already made up their minds.
Well put Mr. Brian Rasmussen; you took the words right out of my mouth. Unions only breed incompotent, lazy, rulebreakers who are rewarded for being such. Before I got my college degrees I worked for a small landscaping and irrigation company. During my time there I worked next to MANY Union workers but was not part of the Union myself. I cannot begin to tell you how slow they worked compared to my team of non-Union workers, how shotty their work was, how often they took breaks, and how unwilling they were to work with my team for the betterment of the entire project. During the construction of a new Wal Mart my team was hired to install the irrigation and landscaping; we were the only non-Union people on the job site. We were also the first people on site every day by 7am (union did show till 8 and didnt start working to roughly 830), we were the last people to go home every day at about 9pm/dark (union left every day AT 315 and not a minute later), we got ONE 15 to 30 minute break for lunch (union got a 15 min 9:15 coffee, 30 min noon lunch, and a 15 min 2:00 coffee; VERY adamant about taking break exactly at the scheduled time with NO exceptions). These Union workers all had their noses in the air and were not willing AT ALL to work with my team to make our day AND their day go more smoothly; any request we had of them was denied and we were forced to completely work around their schedule to accomodate them. We wasted a total of about 1.5 weeks of work either waiting on them or fixing their screw-ups which costed my boss dearly. On other, more basic jobs such as a residential irrigation install, my team worked fast and hard in 110 degree heat through the entire day till the job was done; we NEVER went home without finishing a job. Union workers would go home once the temp reached 95 or 100; and a 14 hour day? Forget about it! We would do a minimum of one job per day with a three man crew and if we got done early we would go do another job or help our other team. It literally took a 5-man Union team three days to do a job that was smaller than the one my 3-man team did in 9 hrs. Here is the kicker...after all that, those Union chumps still made twice the amount that I made. I was offered a job with the Union but after knowing what the Union represents I would have had to have kicked my own butt if I joined...I did not; I'd rather keep my dignity and work ethic with a lower wage than sell my soul to the Union for "a few dollars more". Unions breed fools.
Ebeneser scrooge. I am union and every thing you said is either false or you dont have the facts.....Also a contractor in the state Of CA......tellme the job or project name ....I will check the facts for you.
Really the fact that Walker won just demonstrates how many voters in Wisconsin have an IQ lower then 80. It will be fun to watch their world crash and burn as they drift off into the realm of third-world life styles and pay. Of course there still is more room to go to save tax payers money in Wisconsin-Outsource the rest of the government in Wisconsin to Lybia, or China, or Indonesia. I'm sure they can do just as bad of a job for less money!
Right on brother, I had about 15 years working with clowns like that.
All of you people here who talk like the corporations are going to pay all of us well as long as we do our jobs are full of it. Is that why middle class wages have not grown one iota in years and years and the corporations have record high profits. Get real.
I don't say that corporations are going to pay us well as long as we do our jobs well. I am saying that corporations pay the market value as long as they are not interfered from doing so. If they don't pay market value their employees will work elsewhere... unless they are lazy or are rulebreakers or are incompetent... and are protected by a union.
HAHA they are going to steel your pensions too and then foreclose on your property and sell it to an investment company that will then rent it to you for twice the amount. After that they will bleed your funds dry, cancel your health insurance, feed you tainted food products, and when you get sick they will take the rest of what you have left and kick you on the street. Just line United Airlines.....wonder who is going to pay the pensions when their are no more tax payers left?
I used to work for a national jewelery chain and I supervised 8 states and we decided to expand into Missouri specifically the St. Louis market we were going to open 3 stores at once and 3 more in surrounding areas the next year. We normaly had a crew from Utah that would go in and buildout the locations from electirical, plumbing etc but here we were told we had to use Union workers until we got the CO (certificate of occupancy). So we used them and they were worse than terrible. The sign guy came out and said that the electrician had wired it wrong he even pointed out to our guy (who is licensed contractor) that two wires were backwards. Our guy asked if the sign guy would switch it, he said he couldn't Union rules another electrician would have to come back so our guy said he would do it and the sign guy said if he did he would walk and they would call the Union rep and have all the guys leave. One of the carpenters spilled paint on the carpet and he wouldn't clean it he said to call the Union rep. We would constantly tell them they put doors in backwards, broke things, gaps everywhere. It took almost twice as long as they said it would and almost 3 times longer than our own crew would do it. They cost spiraled out of control. We said we would take the stores like that we got the CO then had our own people go back in and fix everything. It was so bad we did not build anymore stores there. So no more new jobs in the St. Louis area. We just expanded in different areas. Now it may be different in other areas but that has always left a bad taste in my mouth. They would threaten to walk, if we demanded that they fix things they broke the Union Rep would say that it would take a week to schedule a worker to fix it. It was a total scam.
I have worked for non-union employers for my entire adult life. None of them have engaged in stealing pensions, foreclosing on property, cancelling health insurance, etc. All of them have paid a competitive wage for good work. Some of them offer incentive pay to encourage good work. The idea that corporations are out to screw their employees is a myth. They want to make money. Screwing their employees would ruin them.
Brian, What are they paying those Walmart greeters now a days?
A low but competitive wage. People become Walmart greeters at a point in their life where they will accept almost any wage.
Union pensions in the private sector come from monies that are negotiated. There is a set amount the company is willing to give at the table, it is up to the union negotiators to break it up between wages and benefits.
With many companies now giving out 401Ks and giving the worker up to 50% of their own contribution to said 401K, the Union's annuity pensions are going by way of the Dinosaurs. With the losses in 2008, a lot of the Union pensions are frozen and minimal amounts are being given out. Good thing my company started up a 401K for us as I doubt I could have lived on the $100 of union pension a month, we had which I will be getting only after I retire. At least in a 401K I had the option to put my money into a guaranteed money market fund until the market got better as it did in March of 2009. At 65 I can take out all the 401K money and roll it over into my own self directed IRA. In the Union annuity, one is at the mercy of someone handling your money you don't even know and perhaps they don't even care what it does.
My non-union employer pays 133% into my 403b account on up to 6% of my pay. So if I contribute 6%, my employer kicks in an additional 8%. No union negotiation required. The market forces work.
Mine too, 100% match up to 12%- no union necessary. And the slap was hilarious! The woman looks a little strange, but hey it was a laugh.
Brian, how can a wage be competitive when you're competing against those "willing to accept almost any wage"?
Brian, you're lucky. There was just a article in the paper yesterday that wrote about 50% of businesses do not have any retirement plans. Those that do provide one don't usually match too.
I work for an organization that has a staff union (I am not able to join as part of management). Because of the Union, I get a 401(k) with 50% matching (up tp 4.5%), plus, a Money Purchase Plan (a plan the company only kicks in to, at larger %'s each 5 years, with full vesting in 5 years). The Union labor forces work too...
The wage is competitive because the greeters are getting what the market will bear. Sad to say, but they are nearly unemployable. That's why they are willing to accept almost any wage.
That's not surprising. Retirement options like that are very expensive for employers. I don't have the stats, but I would be surprised to learn that every union company offered 401k or 403b options, particularly match ones.
Brian, If you're in a 403(b) Plan, you're either a teacher in a public school, or working for a charity. My guess is, a teacher, government paid.
Actually, most Walmart greeters make about minimum wage, are considered part-timers, with no benefits (or recently paying more for insurance), and know their hours only a week ahead of time (hard on planning). I suspect, if there wasn't a minimum wage, the wages would fall under the minimum wage.
No, I am on the IT staff of a private school.
Yes, I know that Walmart greeters make about minimum wages. I agree, if the minimum wage were lower, the wages would likely be lower for greeters. There would probably be more people that could accept a position as a Walmart greeter, since Walmart would be able to afford to have more greeters on staff. The public would be better served and more people would be employed. Instead, with the minimum wage laws, there are fewer people employed, more people sitting at home doing nothing, and the public receives less service at Walmart.
Well, there is a difference between private and public sector union. Lots of people don't seem to understand the difference. Keep talking about unions and business, great. Now, what businesses do public sector unions work for? Oh, that's right, they don't work for a company, a corporation or a business. Nope, they work for the state and who funds them? Taxpayers. Hope that helps here
Great news and wonderful victory for the sane people of America. Amazing how this would have been front and center on MSNs home page if the Dems had won. Instead, MSN put the article in much smaller print. Despite what the media is trying to do by creating conflict and making people think Nobama has a chance is simply a bold faced lie. Romney by a landslide. By the way, where was Nobama in all of this? I assume no where to be found. Some leader he isn't. Nobama 2012.
What are you implying other than that you can call people names?
What should he have led in your opinion in a states rights issue? Don't you think a state can handle its states affairs without the federal government showing up to save the day?
Other than getting in a personal attack on the President for no reason, what was your point?
Your post implies that the Wisconsin state government is incompetent and requires federal interaction to get anything done.
If Wisconsin's leaders are that inept that you feel Obama should be leading this, shouldn't Wisconsin eject its leaders and start again?
In your quest to attack the President, you implied that Wisconsin can't make its own decisions without federal oversight.
I have to wonder if those that voted you up did so because you name called the President, or if they failed to see that you actually insulted Wisconsin's ability to handle their own affairs.
Just for the record; This recall election has had front page exposure on this site ever since the results came out.
If you hate MSN so much, and deem them one sided. Then WTF are you doing here, go to a republican site, oh yea they have those to!!!!!!!!!!!!
The original poster is speaking of Obama's support of a fellow democrat in an election. ie stumping for the challenger in order that a democrat would win.
I don't agree with name calling and MSN has a history of left leaning tendancies, but the original poster was speaking of elections not federal aid money, and no Obama is not the federal government, he is a sitting president. Don't confuse the two
Holy cow!! You are right on the precipice of understanding.
If you feel states should be free of Federal interference then expand on that thought.
But, be careful! You may fall into the trap of becoming conservative.
BITCH SLAPPED! Nothing more needs to be said.
Barrett has it rough. A guy beats him with a tire iron outside of the State Fair, now a lady slaps him. He better start wearing a football helmet. He did seem to give the concession speech a little early, but did not warrant a slap. I like Barrett as a person, and I believe that he is an honest, caring man, but way too liberal. That tells you again how desperate the Democratic supporters are, and how carried away they get when they can't get their way.
Just like the OWS protestors!! They trashed the capitol building, or one of the big government buildingssomewhere , defecating, urinating, tearing up kid's artwork. Yeah, real civilized group! They went around beaking windows of the very businesses they were suppost to be the voice of!! You don't see REpubs or conservatives doing crap like that!
Jeep . you are embarrassing your self.
right? i live an hour from madison. pretty sure there was no defecating, urinating or trashing of any kind. get the facts!
Did you see what you just said idiot. the jobs left because unions priced there self out. you libs make me sick
Paul: Those types cannot comprehend logic, even when they spew it from their own mouths. I have one of them in my family and it is impossible to point out anything that makes sense, it will dispute and argue until it feels it won. I wonder how far off the ground these people were when they were dropped on their heads as kids? Because I can't think of anything else that would make people so ignorant. nice correction
The voters of Wisconsin voted for one thing only.
Walker did as he promised.
Like it or not, the people voted yesterday (again) and the results were 53% Walker, 46% Barrett. Pretty close to what it was a year and some months ago.
It just so happened there were more that like the way the state is today than those that want it the way it was. Not much else to tell you.
The new "old" reality.. big business has the upper hand.. wealthy people get their way and buy the elections.. Not new.. just repackaged to defame the working class...
Business didn't buy the election. The majority of the voters preferred Walker. That what republicanism is all about. The voters get their say on election day. The election didn't turn out the way that you wanted it to, but that's not because business (or the wealthy) bought the election.
Thats BS... outstate big bucks bought the election as usual.. they even convinced you that this was right.. Big money wins again.. go baby go..
The election wasn't bought. People voted and Walker got the majority of the votes. End of story.
Yes if the election wasn't bought then they need to explain why so much money was spent. Self denying republicians for you. When you spend millions you're buying something. Why do I think it was the election? Of all the states they picked Wisconsin to dump their money. Wouldn't dare give any to the teachers though.
Gary Lee, why don't you take off the liberal screen you wear over your eyes and realize that the Democrats tried just as hard to use out-of-state money to "buy" this election as Republicans did. Both sides spent, both sides campaigned, and the people of Wisconsin chose Walker. You and all other liberals can now retreat to your corners and lick your wounds.
Brian you are either a corporate shill or just to damned stupid to see the facts. Big out of state money bought this election.
Joe B. The republicans brought in 20 million + of outside money, the democrats, 1 million from outside, I don't really think your statement is very accurate.
I agree with Joe B.. whoever thinks that this election was bought by the republicans is an idiot. Both republications AND democrats spent out of state money on this election. The voters spoke. It's nice to see some common sense and positive results of walker's policy's being voted for.
Nope, I'm a person with a brain that isn't afraid to use it. It doesn't matter how much money was spent on advertising. Advertising is just an attempt to persuade the voter. In the end, the voter gets to decide... and that is exactly what happened yesterday. The voters heard arguments for both sides and the voters chose Walker. End of story.
Brian, no it is the beginning of the down fall for the middle class and in turn our country. Plutocracy comes to mind here. Supreme court made a very erroneous ruling which has and will continue to stifle the vote for the working class and or middle class.
In a plutocracy the plutocrats decide who the political leaders are. There is no voting. There is no need to attempt to persuade the public. Whatever they say is just how it goes. That does not describe our nation. We are not governed by the wealthy. We are governed by the leaders that the voters choose. You may not agree with whom the voters have chosen, but that doesn't mean that you don't have the same influence on choosing our leaders as any one of us does. Instead of complaining that we are a plutocracy and predicting the downfall of our country, perhaps you could work to make better arguments for what you believe in. Or you could listen to those whom you disagree with and perhaps be persuaded that they are right.
I am the first to admit when I make a mistake, and after doing a quick search for spending amounts for the Wisconsin recall, I do now realize that the Republicans did raise more funds and spent more than Democrats during this recall. But Don, it was nowhere to the 20 to 1 ratio you threw out there...more like 2 to 1 or 3 to 1. And this begs the question: where were Soros and all of the other far-left political doners and their big bucks? And where was the overwhelming support from labor unions? And why didn't the almighty fund-raising machine named Obama get more involved? Perhaps those people realized that the trend in this country among the middle class (and as much as they'd like you to believe otherwise, union members DO NOT make up the majority of the middle class) is to move away from runaway spending on public-union benefits, and they didn't want to throw their money into what was going to be ultimately a losing recall effort.
So outside money bought this election? Just how exactly does money being sent from Florida to wisconsin, benefit the people/corporations of florida? It doesn't!!
Obama is supposed to raise something like 1 billion dollars for his campaign. So I guess if he wins the Libtards are going to cry that the only reason obama won was because he bought the election? Are they going to say the same thing when their guy wins? LOL I doubt it.
Out of state money bought this election. This would be true no matter who won. Over 60 million for a recall election? Seriously?
Study after study shows that it works. Otherwise people wouldn't dump tens of millions into it.
Brian, you are correct and made the point excellent. We are all ready a plutocracy. Thank you for making the point.
Pat get a life
There is nothing wrong with advertising. Both sides do it. In America we have the freedom to speak. We don't live in a authoritarian society, and I am glad for it.
In this case I would have to disagree about money buying the election. The only advantage it gave Walker was the funding to dig a little deeper on Barrett. Believe me, from the time the protests started last year darn near everyone KNEW who they would vote for. I've never seen such rabid adherence to a candidate or potential as has gone on up here. You could have posted proof of either candidate doing drugs, committing homicide or anything else and it wouldn't have made a difference. As for advertisements, the radio and tv have been non-stop with pretty equal amounts of ads for each, so I don't know where they spent the extra - it's all looked pretty even from a layman's point of view.
Paul , get a brain then possibly you will be able to put a thought together
Being able to sway voters based on well-crafted ads just shows that we need to reinstate IQ tests that one must pass to vote. Too bad they made those illegal back in the 1800s.
This is the beginning of the end for public unions. No longer will they be able to demand higher wages and benefits at the expense of taxpayers (or the real 1%). Now if we can get that disaster of a president out of the White House, 2012 will have been a good year.
Oh yeah, and replace him with Bush 3.0. Because those policies worked out so well for us the first time around. We have a minimum wage that cannot afford an apartment anywhere in the country, people are choosing between buying food and paying their electric bills, but it's the poor we need to drill for more money. Supply side economics doesn't work, and further cutting taxes on the rich and major corporations while continuing to increase DoD's budget will only result in the end of social programs. I do hope Republicans are only pretending to be Christians because it's socially acceptable. Jesus would not be pleased.
You know I keep hearing what a disaster the POTUS is, but may I ask just WHAT he has done to make you make a statement like that? Of course if you are a male chauvinist or prejudice against people that are NOT exactly like you then I can understand.
Get the republicians back in. The banks stayed open and general motors didn't close. We got to fix that!!!!
C. Francis... What has he done? 5 trillion in debt, Forced socialized medicine, Extremist EPA trying to force all the energy sources in country to close, Creating an environment to prevent the greatest employers in the country from growing (SMALL BUSINESS) by adding government red tape, Pandering to the extremist countries. Trying to block the states from protecting their own citizens from Illegal Immigrants. Saying he hasn't overspent only because he refuses to create a BUDGET! How is this for a start?
So Bush Jr's 10 Trillion of debt was ok-but 5 trillion to save the economy isn't, pandering to extremists by going into their country without permission to take out Bin Laden(not something Bush accomplished) and illegal immigration from Mexico is at about zero right now-but if you would like to work some farm jobs I think there's a spot open you can have and it's not union so it would probably excite you...
Nice list. How much debt did Bush leave him? Which energy sources have closed due to the EPA recently? What government red tape? Killing OBL was pandering? And I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) the Republicans held up the budget due to their stalling of the spending increases required to PASS a budget. Get you facts straight before you post mindless garbage.
John where do you get your facts? First of the oil companies.....they can drill , pollute produce do what ever and ruin our environment with the lousy practices, but it will never bring down the price of oil or gas. The US does not even own it any longer and all goes to the "oil bank " to be speculated on world wide. We need a centralized medical system or socialized however you would like to say it, because Glass Steagle was repealed. The debt was inherited because of 2 bogus wars, tax repeal. What of the companies that brought the "illegals" in. So Cal construction, saw it happen first hand, so talk to the businesses they created the problem. You might also do some reading on small business, they have changed them, they are no longer small businesses they are part of large corporations using the loop holes....John McCain as an example......You really need to get your head out of fox news or at least understand the history of fox news so you can make more informative statements.
We already have socialized medicine. Who do you think pays for all those that don't have health care coverage but still receive treatment?
Socialized medicine has been in place for a long time. It's long overdue that everyone pays something, no matter how small it is, into their own health care costs.
As the Green Bay Packers take on their NFL rivals, all 30 teams around the USA are filled with Union Workers (PLAYERS) banging into each other. Makes me wonder how many "fans" will quit supporting all of these sports franchises.
RIP Junior Seau....and all others
well they can stay home
Bush didn't leave a 10 trillion debt it was 800 billion

Our President is an anti-colonialist. Read "Dreams From My Father". He wants to knock this country down to its knees as shown to the world by his bowing to the Saudi King.
His father was an anti-colonialist in Kenya (or he may have been Frank Marshall Davis, the jury is still out on that one. By the way if Frank Davis was his real father, then the Birthers are done. All he has to do is take a blood test to find out for sure.)
The problem is, America was never a colonialist in Africa, Asia or the Middle-east in the same sense as Britian, France, Spain and/or Portugal were. We had our misguided moments, but we never tried to take over any country like the Europeans did for their treasure.
So, I think President Obama is off the scale here and he will lose the election because he insists on trashing America. We may be divided by party, but most Americans know what side their bread is buttered on and will take this President to task for his wreaklessness in this matter.
Some pundits are calling the Wisconsin vote a precursor to the November election, but I don't think that one will necessarily vote for Walker and not vote for Obama or viseversa. There were Democrats who voted for Walker in Wisconsin's election yesterday. The Independents are the ones that are going to really make a difference whether we become a second rate country or retain some semblence of power in the world.
I think most people would like to see us as a victor for common sense and dignity than to be just another country run by the United Nations.

The price of oil is tied directly to the value of the dollar. When our dollar is strong and up in value, the price of oil is down. The price of gas at the pump is determined by the few refineries in America. A lessor amount I might add each year as they are getting old and no one wants to put any money into them so they are shutting them down.
That is where the Gov't should have put in some money, but it is trying to get rid of oil as a fuel source. We all will have to suffer with high prices for a long time unless we go with natural gas, which you can do today. Just convert your car over to it and find a filling station at some truck stops or fleet businesses that have already converted.
This election should NEVER have taken place. I am so weary of these liberals and union types taking court action when they do not win and do not get their way. I am so pleased that sanity prevailed in Wisconsin. I believe people are really getting tired of the union thugs and their ridicuousness. I hope in November the country reacts the same way that Wisconsin did.
Sanity prevailed? Since when is Wisconsin sane. Wisconsin is drunk. That's all Wisconsin is. I know I grew up here and have lived here all my life. Basically the place is just an alchoholic mess. And as far as Republicans and Democrats go, both are loosers.
With the decline in Unions has came lower wages for all. Now hospitals can hire nurses by who will accept the lowest wages....Not by their education levels, experience or expertise in any given field.
Our skilled work force in our doctors, nurses, teachers, anesthesiologist, truck drivers of huge rigs etc are already jumping the sinking ship and changing careers.
The lowest in the class of skilled labor will now be teaching your children and giving you your anesthesia in the operating room.
Without unions there are no controls over the hours that you can be made to work.and there is a 100 people waiting to take your job.
We are going back to the day when semi-truck drivers could pop speed and caffeine and drive for 36 hours on no sleep. When companies cheat those log-books mean nothing.
The truck dispatcher sends a trucker to Calif. from Atlanta...Whoops you have a delivery in St Louis....One log book shows Atlanta to St Louis. One log book shows Atlanta to Calif. You just don't log from St.Louis to interstate 40 that can take you to Calif from Atlanta. Destroy the Atlanta to St Louis logbook after sending in your logs to company so you get your pay.
When doctors and nurses took pills to just stay standing upon their feet after long back-back shifts....
The 12 hour shifts that cut out jobs and removed the need for a third shift of workers. The fewer employes the larger profits for corporations.
So throwing gobs of cash at this will make it all better?? Just stupid...
That happens now with affirmitive action and tenure
I love the chicken little reaction that seems to penetrate this decade kind of a holdover from the last decade. were all screwed, the end is near. Everybody is going to change careers into CEO's Ok
sheilanwp:
I have seen ads in the paper for nurses where the hospital or nursing care facility will give signing bonuses of up to $10,000 per nurse. There is a shortage of nurses and they are well paid for their work. Many people think they can be a nurse, but it can burn out people in a short time. Nurses are the back bone of the medical profession in my opinion and I think most hospitals and care units know this. I doubt they will ever have to work for nothing, but unfortuately there probably always will be a shortage.
Barrett should have been slapped for conceding. I'm sure there are some uncounted ballots in a car trunk somewhere if he would have just hung in there.
From dead people and illegals right Jolly
How did this become a union issue. I was just casting my vote to prevent a police-state under the current administration. Walker is a scary man!!
Uh, maybe it became a union issue when the public service unions initiated the recall election by gathering the needed signatures? I'm just taking a wild guess here... what do I know?
Criminal mind, Walker.
No mind, bp storm...
Well, for me it became a union issue when unions state wide were encouraging their workers to protest in Madison. It became a union issue when I had a friend in Indiana calling me up cussing me out about Walker because HIS union put out propaganda that Walker was trying to destroy pubic AND private unions. Finally, it became a union issue when Barrett stated one of the first things he would do was work with public unions to restore collective bargaining.
MonkeyMo,
"HIS union put out propaganda that Walker was trying to destroy pubic AND private unions."
Maybe he is. The attack on public unions may be only the first step. A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step, as an old Chinese proverb says. It is no big secret that the Republican party is no friend of organized labor. That's why most of the labor unions side with the Democratic party.
congrats scott walker!! great job!!! i just wish the people of az had supported their senate president -russell pierce -and their wonderful young attorney general thomas-for their support of az 270 immigration law when they were recalled by leftist dem o s and the 'imported attorney parraz w/his bull horns and gang of thugs- as they now go after sheriff joe arpaio!! az is in deep dodo right now- they have already replaced their mayor and chief of police w/leftists[appointed not elected] w/men who do not support the new 270 immigration law-bet you were not aware of the siege az is under while sen mccain is silent!!
When you call centrists leftists you only demonstrate your own ignorance....and how psychotically far to the right you are.
Terry more stupid comments . That is just how far left you are. We do not call you libitards for nothing
Why is the cost of living so high. It is based on the union pay scale. The same house in the South is half the price of those in the North, and West. Reason being the union wages. It hurt other people because they do not have the enormous pay check the unions have. Good thing or your groceries and other commodities would cost a fortune. Could you see paying $15.00 for a burger and fry or $10.00 for a gallon of milk.
Cost of living is cheap in Fla? This is a joke right?
Unsafe you are woefully ignorant. A house in the "North" has to be built to a completely different code. We have a thing called "winter" here that you do not have. And generally, a house in the "North" has a unique feature--its called a basement! I live in the "North" and houses where I am at are not "union" built. The vast majority are built by Mexicans that are picked up in front of Lowe's or Home Depot and work for $6 an hour cash. And to cap this off, you "southerners" are still paying top dollar at your Wal-Marts for your Chinese garbage. How do you like that? Gotta feel good making jack-crap in wages and making the Walton Family and China rich.....as you tote your plastic bags back to the trailer next to the pig farm.
Unsafe are you serious, get a fricking clue. Inflation does not have to due with unions. Unions are the voice of the working class, we pay for a service. Insurance, working conditions ect. They are the voice we would not have, why because we are to busy working for barely livable wages. Fact.
I was sitting her cheering you on Cassandra until you started bashing Southerners. We don't like making "jack crap" wages and don't necessarily like shopping at Walmart but sometimes you have to shop at places you can afford. BTW...I don't "tote" my plastic bags back to my trailer next to the pig farm....I live in a perfectly nice house far, far away from any pig farms. I still agree with your post even though I wish you hadn't generalized all people from the South.
Wondering if Cassandra has even ever been to the South. She sounds very confused and on some type of meds that she is not sharing. Poor Cassandra. :-(
Frustrated my family is from Arkansas. My grandfather left his pig farm because he was being paid jack crap for his work. He came to the north for a better life. That has now been effectively destroyed in the north and the south. The jobs are going to Mexico and China and other countries where workers will work for food. My generalization was a direct rebuttal to the original poster. And just so you know, my grandfather was a proud pig farmer but couldn't make a living being treated like a share-cropper.
Kendra-lived in the south, family from the south, love the south. The problem is that the corporate fascist's exploited the northern workers first, then they moved south, then they exported the jobs...And for further information I am a male that served my country for 10 years in the Army and now teach students with special needs. I am aware of many meds that kids need to take to survive the Government-controlled schools. I don't believe in that system and DO NOT BELONG TO THE TEACHERS UNION!
If you need information on who Cassandra was please research the Oracle of Delphi.
Obama 2012 who cares about some damn stupid half baked election. Just got ya another AQ leader what do we really want?? Get off your asses guys these elections are bought by the Koch Brothers no need to worry about the small fry middle class they will just die out and then there will be the super rich and the super poor. Hang in there voters you just voted your basic rights out.........
Did anyone else hear the differences in crowd reactions between the candidates? The winner spoke or reconcilliation and moving forward, to applause. When the loser (Barrett in this case) spoke of the same thing, he was met with jeers and hisses and boos. Nothing better encapsulates the state of politics today; the left-wingnuts refuse to compromise or consider any stance other than their own, and react violently to anyone who thinks they should.
I really don't care what the Fascists think anyway, so why would I(and I don't support Dems either) want to compromise with Fascists like Walker, and his like, anyway?
BP your are ignorant. The fascism comes from the left if you had the intellect to see it. You are mooching off the taxpayers I see
Fascism is a reaction to leftist communists.....lessintellectthanme. And how is pursing 8+ years of education to make sure children are prepared for the future "mooching?" If there wasn't public schools then I would not have pursued a job un that area. I would have worked the assembly line at the local plant. Oh yeah, those jobs are in Mexico and China now. And what is a fair wage when a-hole Rupugnants force me to get another Master's degree to keep my job. I'm 47 with ANOTHER student loan that just got sold to a Bankster's Corporation and they doubled the interest. Paying $500 a month to "keep" my job. Then Refascists come along and want to take my job, pension and health care so they can "privatize" schools to pay off their corporate Bankster-Gangster buddies. And for the record I have never belonged to the teacher's union and refuse to join. I hope this whole country collapses. I am ready for the Second American Revolution. No more food stamps, SS, Welfare, Roads, Schools, DOD--Nothing. We should have no tax and you should be able to survive by what you can steal from your neighbor. If you can't defend it then you shouldn't have it!
this is exactly what the liberal democrats are, emotional nuts, bad form and character if they do not get their way. they assualt and verbally abuse others when no one agrees with them. they are like dealing with arab men, all emotion and no brains. its how they feel not what the facts are. Nice win, time for government to wake up. the unions just ripped off their membership, hope you wake up.
I guess there haven't been comments equally disturbing and downright mean coming from conservatives on here? Democrats don't have a thing on Republicans when it comes to name calling....both sides are really bad about doing that. It's a shame really because as long as the little guys are duking it out then we're not keeping a sharp eye on what the crooks in government are doing to us.
I guess my feelings on unions in general are somewhat mixed. But not when it comes to public employee unions. I see absolutely no reason why public employees need union representation. From whom, exactly, do they need protection? They are employees of the taxpayer and I find the notion that they need collective bargaining rights against the state, county, locality, etc totally outrageous.
You get what you pay for. Watch customer service without unions. Hope you like to complain how bad the city services are.
We need protection from useless legislation like No Child Left Behind. You cannot expect a child with an IQ of 60 to pass high school Algebra 2 and Chemistry. That is what happened in Michigan when ignorant Repugnants seized control. One of the leading Aholes on the Michigan Senate Education Committee is a junior college drop-out.....NICE!
No child left behind is actually a liberal program designed to help everyone, even those who can't help themselves.
good to see you are a liberal cassandra, yet you don't support a liberal program
You are right, not everyone is equal, not everyone can pass algebra 2. Everyone can't be a CEO of a company either and make millions of dollars a year. Yet I am sure you support everyone making the same wage, even though not everyone is as smart as you or will work as hard as you. Right?
LOL
Ralph -
So if the taxpayers don't pony up the ransom, they should expect lousy service from the public employees? You couldn't have made a better argument for public/government union-busting!
NCLB was Bush the Youngers idea...and it is a load of crap!
The union is why my dad, grandfather, uncles and many others lost their jobs as the plant shut down due to too many outrageous demands by the union. My grandfather had dedicated his life to the plant and my father had dedicated 23 years. My grandfather never found another job and my father found one at a much lower pay (he was "overqualified" for many he applied for). Before everyone starts jumping up and down about my comment please keep in mind that my father worked both ends of this. He was a union steward for years and in management (non-union) for the last 5 years of his employment with this company. He had always thought highly of the union until he was a steward and realized the destruction (as his years in the union evolved) that the union was causing the plant. The union became like congress spending more and demanding more than the plant made/took in while the union gurus kept making more and more money off union dues that continued to escalate even when workers were not able to get raises (because the company did not have it to give) and inflation continued to rise. The unions were great when they first came into play. They helped people get fair pay and better working conditions but now they are greedy just like everyone else trying to make a buck.
We are spending way too much on unnecessary wars. Every dollar on the war is a dollar we must do without. Unions weren't the only problem, machines replaced the workers, unions have no control over machines.
We almost lost a local employer who employs a signifant amount of people in this area over the unions demands. They simply couldn't meet them and remain competitive, and it was a close call - they were *this* close to relocating. Thankfully the 2 sides were able to work something out but it was a very close call. Absolutely employers need to treat their workers fairly, but unions have got to be realistic as well. If the company doesn't have the funds to give an 8% raise, then all the screaming in the world isn't going to change that!
The consequences of this election remain to be seen. Don't count on Scott Walker being successful in his policies, such as job creation, anytime soon. What most American's don't get is that none of these politicians even know what time it is, let alone what is really going on. Goodbye America, it's all over with, the country's on the fast track to oblivion. And, doesn't even know it.
He already has succeeded but you are too stupid and swallow too much propaganda to see it. America is being taken back u lazy moocher
wisconsin unemployment is lower than the national average of 8.2 percent now. Walker didn't have to lay anyone off in the public sector.
So what is the complaint again? is bp storm upset that people got to keep their jobs?
I get so tired of ignorant liberals complaining that "the working class" deserves more than they are paid in the job they accepted of their own free will. If they want to make more money get a better education and switch jobs, or just switch jobs. If you really want to get ahead start a business and hire "the working class" for a fair wage. The key word here is "fair". People who own business pay more taxes than their employess in most cases and they assume resposibility and liability for each and every employee. For liberals with a job to complain without doing anything to improve their own condition is just "bitching". Liberals! You have no right to demand more compensation through government tyranny from the employer that was good enough to give you a job. Remember, "The only problem with using other peoples money is that eventually it will run out." What will you do when you tax the employers of this country to the point they close the doors and terminate all of their employees? Buy a clue and start supporting the free enterprise system that makes it possible for you to live better than in any other country in the world with the right to change jobs and residense at will. Just sayin'...
Right on.
Johnnie...are you that stupid? Progressive Liberals ARE the most successful and educated. For a Conservative to suggest a Liberal get an education is laughable at best. You guys seem to forget that with the exception of CA, red states eat up all the welfare...just look in south and mid-west....all welfare-all red
Oh yeah we will be living better! Bush couldn't get out the door fast enough
gpotts:
Everyone coming out of college is a liberal. Until they start to work in a real job (not talking about a Gov't job here).
Then they find out what the professors were telling them was all bull @!$%#. What is the old saying? Everyone that works can, the rest teach.
The fireman and police unions were exempt. And we got the right to carry laws passed this year. The old saying: The police are only minutes away, but your gun is only seconds away!!
gpotts;
I actually had some very good teachers back in the day. They taught us to think for ourselves and ask, why, along with knowing how.
Teaching back then seems to have been different than it is today. I could be wrong, but it seems my teachers didn't do it for the money. Teaching was a prestigous job that everyone looked up to. Most of us kids came out of school wanting to be a teacher.
It is past time that someone take responsibility on how our tax dollars are spent! I am not against people making a decent wage but some of the wages and benefits these government employee's make (based on the private sector) is outrageous!
I have had to take a pay cut just to keep my job because of our business but still pay the same amount of tax's to fund our government. The government employee's got to take their lumps just like everyone else as they are not above any cuts to their benefits. It is always easy to spend someone else (the tax payers) money and it is past time for our elected officials to take that responsibility for everyone!
It always amazes/amuses me that the Democrats present themselves as the party of tolerance, respect of personal choice, etc., yet when the majority of people say, you know, maybe we need to go in another direction - they are the first one's to cry foul. Suggesting that the failure of the recall sets the state on the path to the destruction of the middle class is absurd. It saves future generations of the middle class from having to pay for perceived entitlements. If you want to know what happens to an economy and population that puts such government subsidized entitlements over fiscal responsibility, look at what's happening in Greece. It's time to accept personal responsibility for our debts (versus cashing unsigned checks from future tax payers) and go back to work. No one said it was going to be easy.
I am Progressive and I think the people of WI should get exactly what they want. Time to move on. We can only hope the rest of our great country does not follow suit.
Please quit equating the Greek situation with U.S. as it is apples and oranges and totally irrelevant.
They are too dumbed down to see it. They are just selfish evil being that have the attitude I got mine screw you! All the public employee moochers can go screw themselves now
next time your house catches fire or you get robbed I hope YOU get screwed. I would say education, but it is clear that none of that "socialist, commie book learnin'" was wasted on you.
More, your'e handle does not suit you , maybe dumb as a rock would be better for you
The only reason the unions jobs are now paying less is because the salaries and benefits were unjustifiably raised so far beyond reason in the past. They are still higher than they should have ever gotten to. No one asked them to pay back the overpayments they received all those years. They just made emergency adjustments to save the state. The rest of the states need to do the same thing. California (the most out of control liberal state) is following suit with a liberal governor. They should be happy they were overpayed for all of those years. The USA is now bankrupt because of the crooked union deals made for years all over the country.
