One of the themes in this thing is just the "jealousy" that the GOP accuses the left when they object to the obscene salaries of the 1%. People were jealous of the benefits public employees were getting (never mind that what they get are pretty much on par with private-sector corporate workers with the same education and experience). They want to get rid of unions in general. But to borrow another Republican mantra, "A rising tide lifts all boats," and once they have pulled the teeth of all unions they will find that prevailing wages will be lower for everyone; even non-union workers' pay is affected by what is won in bargaining by unions. Big money has won in Wisconsin. They won't have to pay taxes, they won't have to pay employees very much, and all the money goes right into that second home or yacht.
One of the saddest things in this election is what money from any source can do to democracy. When Walker's group can call up people and "lie" by saying you don't have to come to vote if you signed the petition....that is underhanded but without the money he could not do these things. It is my feeling that Walker will eventually get his commupence ...all I can hope for ...is it is soon. What most people were objecing to was not so much what was done by how and the lies told before it. Walker campaigned on jobs and I think the jobs report will show he has not produced them. He has laid off many teachers, firemen and cops...the middle America who keeps this country going. He pushed his agenda in the middle of the night with no democrats present and no 24 hr. notice. His cohorts who worked for his campaign are now being indited and there is some talk of him also and that is why he now has two defense lawyers and funds waiting...just in case. He will kill the unions and this is wrong. There is room in this country for this group who usually fight for the middle class. If he had done all this without the money spent 25-1 in dollars...I would call it a victory...but it was a buy out to me. This is wrong for our country and democracy will suffer because it is only the beginning. We need to get rid of Citizens United if we ever want a fair election again.
Howard Dean just made a comment that the Democrats will not give-in to extending tax cuts that favor the rich over the poor. They already gave-in when they allowed those tax cuts for the wealthy to begin with. They already gave it away, Howard, cowering before Republican's very effective bully tactics without anything near a commensurate response.
