Joe Biden has been spending some time in eastern Ohio, pushing President Obama's record and taking aim at Mitt Romney's record at Bain Capital, a firm Romney co-founded in 1984.
During a campaign stop in Youngstown, Ohio, at the M-7 Technologies manufacturing plant, Vice President Biden laid into Romney and the GOP by saying the party doesn't understand working class Americans.
"My mother and father dreamed as much as any rich guy dreams!" Biden said. "They don't get us! They don't get who we are."
Biden went on to state Romney's primary interest was protecting "the guys on top."
"Romney made sure the guys on top got to play by a separate set of rules, he ran massive debts, and the middle class lost. And folks, he thinks this experience will help our economy? Where I come from, past is prologue, man. So what do you think he’ll do as president?"
Biden's populist comments struck today's Morning Joe panel as particularly effective:
"I always say the populist stuff doesn’t work because it seems so phony, but Biden is telling the truth," Joe Scarborough said. "It works with Biden because he’s a…working class guy. He feels it and, by the way, you look at all these millionaires that run our country and you look at his taxes every year. He hasn’t cashed in."
Mike Barnicle agreed in saying Biden may be the Vice President and he may travel with Secret Service detail, he's still Joe Biden.
Scarborough also said Biden is delivering a very powerful message to the public.
"[Romney] thinks his rich friends should play by a different set of rules…that’s a pretty powerful message," Scarborough said.
