Inevitable decline? Financial Times Chief U.S. Columnist Edward Luce says anyone who holds doubts about that for the U.S. is in "an intellectual ostrich position." He'll give us his reasons laid out in his latest book, "Time to Start Thinking: America in the Age of Descent."
Promoting tolerance? Academy Award-nominated actress Kathleen Turner stars in a new film, "Perfect Family," which delves into themes of faith and family. The Catholic League is up in arms about the movie. We'll find out why and what Turner has to say in response.
Long haul? Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson asks why we're still in Afghanistan and says he's "at a loss." We'll discuss his latest column in our Top Talkers.

Am looking forward to Eugene Robinson's take on this latest agreement signed with Afghanistan, as it should tie in with Edward Luce's book. Both political parties are equally to blame for our gradual demise. They're all clueless on what's happening throughout the country, while they play their petty games. Dems want to keep wasting money on entitlements, while Repubs want to keep cutting taxes to avoid paying our bills. In the meantime, we're going to continue spending $2 Billion weekly on war, instead of investing in research and infrastructure.
Dems were willing to put entitlement cuts on the table; Obama must have said it over a dozen times. And healthcare reform itself was a method to begin cutting the deficit. A HUGE chunk of our deficit is due to medical costs and medical costs are skyrocketing. Obama definitely believes in healthcare reform having merits of it's own but it was also an answer to the rising deficit due to rising medical costs.
Would really like to hear you guys talk about what's up with Fukushima. Things are very, very bad there and going to get much worse. We are getting fallout from a disaster that may well end up being more than 10x than Chernobyl. We have over 20 nukes here that are exactly the same make and the one in VA has cracks discovered (not caused by) after the recent quake. Take a walk on he wild side and let folks know!
Eugene Robinson begins his entire column with a false premise: "I would argue that U.S. and NATO forces have already done all that is humanly possible toward that end."
In short, he is wrong. Now he knows why we are staying there, because we have NOT done all that is humanly possible toward that end.
Afghanistan is in shambles, a ruin of a country. There is no reason why it has to REMAIN a ruin of a country. We and the Russians left Afghanistan a smoldering ruin the last time we were there and that is why it became a place for terrorists and corruption. Do we want that entire cycle to start over again? If we come in and bomb the crap out of the country and then just LEAVE then we leave the people of Afghanistan vulnerable and very, very bitter towards the U.S. The children in that country then grow up angry, poor, and with one or two parents blown to pieces across Afghan soil because of a drone strike or maybe they just get shot to death by some rogue US soldier. That is the perfect recipe for a suicide bomber or future terrorist leader who then will carry out yet another attack on the U.S. which will lead to yet another war where we go in and root out all the terrorists who we pretty much created..
Why is this so hard to get through to people like Eugene Robinson?? Do their eyes and ears just shut off every single time this is explained??
We didn't ask for this war, but neither did all the regular citizens who were just minding their own business in Afghanistan when the terrorists struck on 9-11. Sure many of them might have been happy about it but these people don't know any better. Like I said before, they grew up already bitter from being abandoned before and their only leadership in that country, the Taliban, has been spewing anti-American rhetoric at them their whole lives. Is that their fault? This is a country full of mislead and otherwise innocent people and we cannot just abandon them again even if they aren't showing appreciation as much as we would like because we are bigger than that.
